Mercedes-Benz's Upcoming Porsche 911 Challenger, the SLC AMG, Rendered

With a starting MSRP of a shade under $200,000 in the U.S. and €190,000 in its home market of Germany, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in Coupe and Roadster body styles is positioned in the mid-price range of exotic sports cars.

Now, being that Germany's finest car manufacturers are on a mission to cover every single niche, no matter how big or small it is, one shouldn't be the least surprised to learn that Merc's AMG division has set its eyes on the entry-level premium sports car category with a new model priced at around (possibly even under) the $100,000 mark.

Mercedes A45 AMG Easily Beats BMW M135i and VW Golf GTI in Comparison Test

The following comparison test from Autocar couldn’t bring together more different types of hot-hatches. For starters, there’s the all-wheel-drive Mercedes A45 AMG powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit developing 355 horsepower (360PS). Then there’s the rear-wheel-drive BMW M135i powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine that churns out 316 hp (320PS). Finally, the most curious choice of the test is the VW Golf GTI Performance, a front-wheel-drive 227hp (230PS) car powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Read more »

Sutcliffe Tests Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, Finds it Competent but Not Sharp Enough

After releasing their test of the A45 AMG a few days ago, Autocar has now also tried out the sedan variant built on the same front axle-biased all-wheel drive platform, and powered by the same turbocharged engine.

Mercedes-Benz claims identical acceleration and top speed figures, even though the CLA 45 AMG is some 30 kg (66 lbs) heavier than the A-Class, but reviewer Steve Sutcliffe says the sedan does not feel as edgy to drive as the hatch, getting a more dulled down throttle response.

Sutcliffe Passes Judgment on the New 355HP Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

The A45 AMG is Mercedes’ smack in the face of the established hot hatch manufacturers, with a car that looks different, apparently drives quite well and is powered by the world’s most powerful production two-liter turbocharged engine. It’s so impressive, that it’s actually faster in a straight line than the bigger, more powerful and far, far more expensive CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake. Read more »

New Mercedes S63 AMG "Accidentally Revealed" While Rolling Off the Production Line?

Since the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been revealed, and we’ve seen quite a few photos of it, it’s really not hard to imagine what the hot S63 model will look like, especially if we take a peek at what goes into transforming an E-Class into an E63 – different sportier bumpers, slight body kit, new rims and AMG badging both inside and out, all complimented by special color finishes.

However, we need not wonder any more, as Mercedes has accidentally revealed the S63, at the Sindelfingen factory where it is built, through a video found by Autoforum. The Czechs argue that it wasn’t really accidental, and that we were meant to see this – we agree, though we cannot ever be certain of such matters.

What if the New Mercedes-Benz CLA was a Proper Coupe?

There have been many heated discussions over the past few years about whether sedan models with low rooflines (sometimes lacking door-window frames) should be called four-door coupes and if the term itself is contradictory, but at the end of the day, this is how we have come to know and call cars like the Volkswagen CC, the Mercedes-Benz CLS, and more recently, the CLA.

We're not going to get into that discussion again, though, you're more than free to do so if you wish in the comments, but we will share this rendering of a proper Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe made by the creative minds at Hungary's X-Tomi Design.

Mercedes A45 AMG Beats CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake in Quarter-Mile Race!

Yes, that’s right, the little “hot hatch” from Mercedes-Benz, the A45 AMG has just been put up against the much bigger, more expensive and more powerful CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake and it beat it! AutoExpress discovered that the smaller and cheaper car was measurably faster over the standard quarter mile, in a result which really surprised us as well. Read more »

Merc's 355HP A45 AMG Coming to the UK in August Priced from £37,845

The new Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG hot hatch has a lot going for it – it looks good, it packs a powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged four-pot with the highest specific output of any production engine at 179hp (181PS) per liter, and also gets four-wheel drive, just to mention a few of the highlights.

Today, we also learned when and how much it will cost in the UK. First deliveries will take place in the beginning of August with on-the-road prices starting from £37,845, which makes the dual-clutch transmission-only A45 AMG close to £7,000 more expensive than the 316hp (320PS) BMW M135i (RWD) with a manual gearbox, and nearly £4,000 more than the 8sp automatic version.

Refreshed 2014 Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe Gets a Digital E63 AMG Treatment

There never was, and there will never be, an official AMG high-performance version of the C207-codenamed Mercedes-Benz E-Class Coupe that was just recently launched in facelifted form, something that the German brand has already admitted as being a big mistake that will be corrected with the next generation model. Mercedes-Benz Explains What Makes the A45 a Real AMG

Mercedes-Benz's AMG division is well aware of the fact that they are somewhat diluting the brand with the A45 AMG. Here they are taking three letters that they have built up into a V8- and V12- powered performance brand over many years and slapping them on the back of a very flashy-looking hatchback. It has to be really good not to be bashed. Read more »

All those crazy dash-cam videos from Russia that are circulating on the internet would lead you to believe that any car footage related to the land of vodka, babushkas and caviar would entail a crash or at least someone pointing a gun to a motorist. Read more »

Mercedes Admits Not Creating AMG Version of E-Class Coupe Was a Mistake

We’ve always wondered why Mercedes-Benz did not make an E63 AMG version of their E-Class Coupe and E-Class Cabriolet, which would have made a lot of sense, since they already have hot versions of pretty much any car in their lineup. Now, we learn that Mercedes itself regrets not having done so, but the Germans say this will amended in the next-generation car. Read more »

Watch Michael Schumacher Drive a Mercedes F1 Car on the Nordschleife

As Michael Schumacher and Mercedes-Benz had promised, the seven-time F1 champion was able to say goodbye to his fans in a very special way – by driving a 2011 Mercedes Formula 1 car on the Nürburgring. Schumacher’s laps also marked the first time a Mercedes-Benz Formula 1 car was driven on the Nordschleife since 1954. Read more »

Mercedes Uses Fairies and Aliens to Promote the A45 AMG

With 355-horses (360PS) kicking under its hood, the Mercedes A 45 AMG boasts the world’s most powerful 2.0-liter 4-cylinder production engine. That in itself is enough to make drivers enthusiastic about the prospect of getting behind the wheel of the very hot hatch.

So when there are two drivers and only one car, things can get interesting – even more so if the duo are Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg, Mercedes AMG Petronas’ Formula 1 drivers.

New Gallery of Mercedes' Updated E-Class Coupe and Cabrio, and Video of E63 S Wagon

Mercedes-Benz is still trying to convince us that the redesigned E-Class has a "four-eyed" look that is typical of the E-Class, but I still can't see it… Nevertheless, they have integrated this departure from tradition into the design rather well, and I find the facelifted model better looking than its predecessor.

Now, after launching the sedan and estate versions of the car, and following the world premiere of the Coupé and the Cabriolet models, Mercedes has put the spotlight again on the latter, which in Germany, cost from €42,600 for a base E200 hardtop to €73,300 for an E500 convertible ($55,832 - $96,500).

Aston Martin Looking to Sign Tech Supply Deal with Daimler

You may remember some older rumors that suggested that Aston Martin was going to sign a deal to receive engines from AMG, in order to cut spending and become more competitive, but ever since we first heard about it in December of last year, there has been no talk of this anywhere…

Now, though, according to Bloomberg, Aston representatives are in talks with Daimler for initiation of “supply and technical cooperation agreements as the U.K. sports-car maker seeks to reduce spending on developing models.”
