Bernie Ecclestone Might Buy Financially Troubled Nürburgring Circuit

The Nürburgring racetrack, located in the Eifel hills in western Germany, has been reporting serious financial problems in the last year, culminating with their filing for bankruptcy in July of 2012. Now, exactly one year later, it remains without an owner, but that may soon change, if F1 boss Bernie Ecclestone decides that he wants to spend the $170 million (€130 million) required in order to buy it, says Die Welt. Holden Sets New Nürburgring Record for Trucks with VF SS V Redline Ute at 8:19.47 [w/Video]

If a tuned diesel VW T5 set a lap record for vans on the Nürburgring, it should be a walk in the park for a V8-powered pickup truck like the Holden VF SS V Redline Ute, right? This seems to be the reasoning behind Holden’s decision to  ship one of its new VF SS V Redline Utes to the famous German circuit.

As expected, the Australians didn’t return home empty handed, with their Ute setting a world record for a commercial and utility vehicle – a category that didn’t exist before, it has to be said.

Watch a Porsche 911 GT2 Driver Crash, Tumble and Then Walk Away on the 'Ring

Unlike this Porsche 911 GT2 RS owner who recently proved that Lady Luck exists on the Nürburgring racetrack, the person behind the wheel of the yellow 911 GT2 that you're about to watch in the following video, wasn't so fortunate, but on the other hand, he was able to walk away with minor injuries, which has to count for something.

Captured on the dashboard camera of a Citroen DS3 Racing, the Porsche driver comes into the picture when he flies by the French hatch, which at that point, was going around 160km/h (about 100mph). A few seconds later, we see the German sports car veering to the left, smashing into the protective barrier, which sends it into the air, and rolling on the ground.

Spied: Jaguar Hones New F-Type Coupe on the Nürburgring

Here are some fresh photos of the prototype model that will lead to the production version of the all-new Jaguar F-Type Coupe. Our spy photographers nabbed the car while the British firm's testers were running some hot laps around the Nürburgring circuit.

Even though Jaguar originally previewed the F-Type with a concept for the coupe in 2011, it was the roadster model that was released to the public first. To get your hands on the closed-top model, you'll have to wait at least a year as from what we've heard, Jaguar plans to reveal the sports coupe no sooner than summer of 2014.

The Nürburgring racetrack may look like a ton of fun when you're driving a virtual car from the comfort and safety of your couch, but there's no reset and return buttons in real life when something goes wrong, only the potential for a lot of pain, life-threatening dangers and a huge hole in your pocket and ego.

Toyota GT 86 Rent-a-Car Performs a Painful Crash-Exit at the 'Ring

An accident is never a pleasurable experience, but at least this particular driver did not crash his own car.

The unnamed motorists who was captured on camera at the Nürburgring racetrack by a YouTube user "Automobilchannel" was behind the wheel of a Toyota GT 86 (marketed as the Scion FR-S in North America) rent-a-racer when he came into a turn a little too fast and continued straight into the grass before face-lifting the Japanese coupe on the metal railings.

This Is It: Aston’s One-Off CC100 Centenary Special [w/Video]

Aston Martin has lifted the veil off its CC100 Speedster concept car that marks the company’s 100th birthday. The CC100 Speedster, which stands for Concept Car 100 years, is also a tribute to the Le Mans-winning 1959 Aston Martin DBR1 racecar, from which it adopts the classic two-seat speedster shape.

Built on the platform of the V12 Vantage, the CC100 can also be considered a tribute to Aston’s smallest V12 model that will soon be discontinued. Last but not least, Aston Martin says the study hints at potential future design direction.

Watch a Very, Very Lucky Porsche 911 GT2 RS Driver Chase a Carrera GT at the Nürburgring

Pop quiz: which Porsche is more powerful and faster, the 997-gen 991 GT2 RS or the Carrera GT? You might be forgiven for answering the latter, as it was Porsche’s hypercar and a Ferrari Enzo rival whether the former just a souped-up version 911 Turbo at half the GT’s price.

The numbers, however, tell a different story. The normally aspirated 5.7-liter V10 in the mid-engined Carrera GT churns out 612HP (620PS) for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). The twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter that’s hung out behind the rear axle of the 997 GT2 RS has an identical power output and top speed but is faster by 0.4 seconds in the customary 0-100 km/h sprint.
