Spied: Watch 2015 VW Golf R Mk7 Prototype Run Some Hot Laps Around the 'Ring

Unless Volkswagen gives the green light to the likes of the sizzling Design Vision GTI Concept, the Golf R will remain the ultimate production model in the compact hatchback's range. We've already seen spy pictures of the car and now, a video of a prototype Golf R Mk7 has surfaced on YouTube from the crew at MonsterChannle24.

Just like the outgoing model, the new Golf R will rely on a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine for its motivation, connected to a standard six-speed manual or an optional dual-clutch DSG transmission and a Haldex 4Motion all-wheel drive system.

VW Reportedly Developing Carbon Fiber Roof for High-Performance Golf

Carbon fiber is slowly migrating into the mainstream, with manufacturers like Ford and BMW actively working to bring associated costs down, so that more cars can benefit from the multitude of benefits it offers.

Now, according to a report from Edmunds, Volkswagen, which is also working towards the same goal, is currently developing a carbon fiber roof for its high-performance Golf variants, which will lower the car’s center of gravity and reduce its weight by around 18 to 20 pounds (8.2 to 9.1 kilos).

Spy Shots: Volkswagen Turns the Wick on the New Golf R Mk7

If you were wondering what's next for the new Volkswagen Golf Mk7 family after the launch of the GTI (in Europe, as North America will get it in 2014), you're looking at it in these pictures.

VW engineers may have placed red GTI badges on the front fenders of the prototype, but a quick look at the back and the quad exhaust pipe arrangement as well as the visibly larger front and rear brake discs leave no doubt that this is the new Golf R.

New Volkswagen Golf R Cabriolet with 265PS is the Last Hurrah for the Mk6

Volkswagen is sending off the sixth generation of its Golf series with a powerful bang in the form of the new Golf R Cabriolet that was officially revealed today after many months of teasing.

At the heart of the first-ever open-top "R" badged model and simultaneously, the fastest-ever production Golf Cabriolet in the history of the series, beats the same 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four petrol as found in the Golf R hatch, albeit slightly de-tuned at 261hp (265PS).

Ford Focus ST vs. VW Golf R and…Subaru BRZ in MT's Head2Head

What are the criteria for comparing one car against another? Well, basically, they should belong to the same category; have similar performance stats and, perhaps more importantly, be close in price.

The new 2013 Ford Focus ST and the soon-to-be replaced VW Golf R that are featured in latest episode of "Head 2 Head" from Motor Trend are a match in two out of these three criteria: they're both compact hatchbacks and each gets a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 256hp in the VW and 252hp in the Ford.

Volkswagen Reveals Production Golf R Cabriolet in Video

It's been a year and a half since Volkswagen displayed the Golf R Cabriolet Mk6 Concept at the 2011 edition of the Wörthersee GTI meet in Austria, and even though the company has already presented the hatchback versions of the seventh generation Golf, it appears that the Germans will finally go ahead and produce the car.

VW released a video in which it simply states, "Take a look at the new Golf R. It boosts the level of adrenaline in just a few seconds and is now open to the top. The Golf R Cabriolet."

SchwabenFolia Drops 325 Horses Under the Hood of the VW Golf R

The tunes for Volkswagen's Golf R Mk6 just keep dropping in. Only a day after we told you about Cam Shaft's Golf R "Electrified", another German company named SchwabenFolia, which also specializes on car wraps and performance upgrades, introduced its newest take on Wolfsburg's hottest hatch.

It all begins with the Golf R's 2.0-liter turbocharged unit that benefits from a new handmade exhaust system featuring twin Capristo exhaust valves controlled via a button on the dash, and a software upgrade to nudge power from 267hp (270PS) to 325hp (330PS).

Spied: New 2014 Volkswagen Golf R Sheds All of its Camouflage

The regular versions of the brand-new Volkswagen Golf Mk7 are fine and dandy, but what we really want to see is the performance editions and more specifically, the GTI and of course, the R-branded models of the series.

Just a couple of weeks ago, our spies nabbed a prototype of the next Golf R, but it was armed up to the teeth in camouflage – which was logical since Volkswagen had yet to uncover the Mk7.

Now that it did, however, VW engineers made away with the swirly wraps giving us an unobtrusive view of the prototype Golf R.
