EV Maker Detroit Electric Postpones Launch of First Car by "At Least a Month"

According to a report from The Detroit News, re-born EV manufacturer Detroit Electric will be forced to push back the launch of its first model, the SP:01 sports car by "at least a month".  The information was passed on via telephone interview with the company’s North American CEO Don Graunstadt.

Geely Reveals EC7-EV with "Detroit Electric Technology"

Geely Automobile Group of China has revealed an all-electric vehicle dubbed the EC7-EV, based on the brand’s Emgrand EC7 model. What’s interesting about the model is the badge it bears, which says “Detroit Electric Technology,” which apparently means it was jointly-developed by the two companies.

The acceleration is the same as that of the Tesla Roadster, but the SP:01 does have a higher top speed.

If you were born after World War II and haven't studied the history of car brands in the United States, chances are you've never heard about an American automobile company called "Detroit Electric", which was a subsidiary of the Anderson Electric Car Company based in Detroit, Michigan. As its name suggests, it produced electric cars and was active from 1907 through 1939.

Now, almost three-quarters of a century later, Detroit Electric is ready to enter the world stage again after Albert Lam, former Group CEO of the Lotus Engineering Group and Executive Director of Lotus Cars of England, revived the brand in 2008 "with a vision to produce an electric vehicle that seamlessly integrates refined aesthetics, innovative technology and superior handling and performance".
