Icona Vulcano is a Coachbuilt Supercar Made by China-Based Italian Studio [w/Video]


One of the most impressive world premieres at the ongoing Auto China 2013 in Shanghai is the Icona Vulcano, a new and very promising entry in the world of exotic supercars. It was styled by Icona, a European design studio founded in early 2010 that's permanently based in Shanghai’s Lujiazui district, and made by Cecomp, one of the founding partners of Icona based in Torino, Italy.

While Icona originally stated that the Vulcano is a one-off model, its most recent press release notes, "this car is made as a one-off, no more than five will be built", which is a contradictory statement…

Icona Vulcano 950hp Hybrid Coupe Makes a Fiery Global Debut in Shanghai


The Icona Vulcano has just made its official debut on the Shanghai motor show floor, and with it, we also get the first batch of photos. We finally get to see the much-teased front-engine supercar from all angles, not just the top, but the use of a wall of fire as a background is a bit over the top, and it makes the car’s various styling details trickier to spot. Icona Vulcano Revealed with Single Photo Shot from Above


This is the first complete image of the Vulcano supercar, built by Italian design firm Icona. The photo is still not very telling, but it does show the whole car. However, one can’t get the sense of proportion, and make comments on its design, yet, because it only allows us to see the car in a top-down perspective, which currently makes it look a bit like a Lexus LF-A – we will have to wait for its show floor debut in Shanghai to be able to make accurate comments. Icona Vulcano is a One-Off, 900HP Italian Supercar to be Revealed in Shanghai


The supercar segment will soon welcome a new entrant in the guise of the one-off Vulcano, which is coachbuilt in Italy and designed by Icona, an Italian design house based in Shanghai, China.

Set for a world premiere at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show in April, the Vulcano is a two-seater supercar featuring a hybrid powertrain that combines a front-mounted V12 engine with a pair of electric motors. The drivetrain is the work of former powertrain technical director of Ferrari, Claudio Lombardi.
