2013 Nissan GT-R Goes Up Against the BMW Alpina B6, the Outcome is Predictable…

British magazine Autocar has a habit pitting unlikely competitors against one another, then trying to find similarities, but ultimately admitting to the fact that the cars they choose are not the best matched.

Take their latest endeavor for example, which has them trying out the latest version of the Nissan GT-R, and having it compete against the BMW 6-Series-based Alpina B6 – the outcome is predictable.

Travelling Back in Time: My Visit at the BMW Museum in Munich

For a car enthusiast, a trip to Munich is unconceivable without a stop at the BMW Museum. Its permanent exhibition hosts more than 120 automobiles, motorcycles and engines spanning nine decades of BMW brand history.

For €9, which is equal to US$11.75, I had the chance to travel back in time and see how the BMW legend was born and developed into what is now the world’s largest premium car manufacturer. This is not going to be an exhaustive presentation of my trip, however, as visiting an automobile museum is mostly a subjective experience, so I will only talk about the cars that impressed me the most.

Scoop: New Alpina B6 Gran Coupe BiTurbo Offers an Alternative to M6

There are BMW tuners and BMW tuners, and then there's Alpina; a company that works so closely with the Bavarian automaker that its cars are produced on the same assembly lines as the BMWs they are based on, and come with a full manufacturer's warranty.

Having launched two brand-new models in the past month, in particular the X3 diesel-based XD3 BiTurbo and the F30 3-Series sedan-based B3 BiTurbo, Alpina has now turned its focus on the next project based on the 650i Gran Coupe, and which judging by the company's nomenclature, will most likely be called the B6 BiTurbo Gran Coupe.

With a twin-turbocharged 4.4-liter V8 that's factory rated at 552-horses (560PS) and 680Nm (501 lb-ft), the new BMW M6 Coupe is already a very fast car, but there's always room for improvement, right?

German tuner G-Power agrees, and has unleashed a new performance package for the two-door sports car. As always, it all begins with the beast lying under the hood that adopts upgraded software and a lighter (by 12kg or 26 pounds) titanium exhaust system pushing output numbers to 631hp (640SP) and 777Nm (573 lb-ft).

All-New BMW M6 Gran Coupe Officially Introduced, Goes on Sale Next Year [30 Photos]

Joining the existing Coupe and Convertible body styles of the M6 series is a third variant based on the so-called Gran Coupe, which is BMW talk for a sportier looking sedan model.

A few hours after we shared the first pictures of the M6 Gran Coupe, BMW came out with more photos and full details on its latest offering that will arrive in European dealerships in May, 2013, with a starting price of €128,000 (about US$167,000) in Germany, which places it between the Coupe (€124,000) and the Convertible (€131,400 ) M6s in terms of pricing.

North American sales will begin in the summer of the same year, with pricing to be announced, though, if BMW's German pricing strategy is anything to go by, it should cost around US$110,000.

As the sedan version of the M6 Coupe and Convertible series, the Gran Coupe features the same mechanical and aesthetic upgrades as the two other models with the added weight and practicality that comes with the two extra doors and 113mm (4.45 inches) longer wheelbase.
