Last BMW M3 Coupe Rolls Off the Production Line Marking the End of a Naming Era

We guess everything has to come to an end, and that's the case for the BMW M3 E92 Coupe, the very last example of which rolled off the assembly line today at the Bavarian firm's plant in Regensburg, Germany.

While the related E93 M3 Convertible will continue to be manufactured alongside the regular 3 Series Sedan, Coupe and Convertible at the same factory for a few more months until this September, this is the last time we'll see the famed "M3" badge used on a two-door model.

Watch a Short History Lesson on the Evolution of the BMW M3 Species

The BMW M3 is without a doubt, the most successful BMW M model, and it all started almost three decades ago with the E30 BMW M3. Built over the years in coupe, convertible and even sedan variants (the E36 and E90), the M3 is still the default choice for those who want supercar performance for premium sedan money.

To this day, the original E30 BMW M3 stirs emotions like no other M3, but that doesn’t mean the following generations were flops. However, as far as the E36 M3 is concerned, BWS Motorsports' Marc Norris has a different opinion though, as he sees it as a step backwards compared to the E30 M3, despite the fact that it was the first M3 with a six-cylinder engine.

M3 CSL Turns 10, BMW Organizes Official Event at HQ

BMW’s E46 M3 CSL turned 10 this year, and in order to celebrate the occasion, the manufacturer organized a small get-together at their German HQ, summoning 50 CSL drivers to come take part. With only 1,400 made, it is a rare car, so you won’t really get to see this many in one place, unless another similar event is planned for the future. Read more »

Dimwitted BMW M3 Driver has a Death Wish

More due to luck than anything else, the Russian (or so we understand he's from Russia) driver of this BMW M3 E92 Coupe was not involved in an accident – this time, at least, because if he continues this way, he will surely soon make it on our list of crazy crashes from the land of Tsars...

Even so, the driver and his passenger who was filming the speedy run came very close to re-creating this much-publicized Moscow accident that occurred earlier in the year.

Petrolicious Gives Us a BMW E30 M3 Appreciation Lesson

The E30 BMW M3 is now a real collectors’ car, but unlike most old vehicles people end up collecting that are either too slow or far too unsuitable for modern traffic conditions, this is a sports car dressed up as a late 1980s 3-Series. However, it doesn’t really share that much with the standard car when it comes to its body, from which it only takes the basic body shell, roof and bonnet. Read more »

POV Test Drive of the BMW M3 Lime Rock Park Limited Edition

It suffices to say, few enthusiasts wouldn’t be content with owning and driving a BMW M3. It’s amazing how much more of a lasting impression it leaves, compared to its more mundane 3-Series siblings.

Now approaching the end of the road, the current incarnation of the M3 has served well and has definitely earned its status as a desirable car, which is why it will make an excellent second-hand buy, especially after deliveries of its successor start – this will push prices down.

BMW M3 Driver is Surprised by Tight Corner and Dives Off a Cliff

Some say that BMW M3 drivers don’t have a good reputation and the following video will do nothing to change their perception. Quite the contrary, actually, as driving hard on a twisty mountain road that one doesn’t know is clearly not something a clever and cautious person would do.

Filmed by a camera mounted on the car’s rear lateral window, the video shows the driver of an E46 BMW M3 Coupe pushing the gas pedal to the metal on a winding road in Arizona in pursuit of an E92 BMW M3. He is clearly driving faster than his abilities and at one point is surprised by a tight right turn. Given the high entry speed, it's not much of a surprise that the car understeers and rolls over down the cliff.

Drag Race of Generations and Fuels: E30 BMW M3 vs. F30 BMW 320d

The E30 M3 is probably BMW’s most iconic and most discussed model of modern times. Its perfect handling and balance makes it a favorite amongst BMW enthusiasts worldwide, as does its timeless styling. But how does its performance stand the test of time? More specifically, is it still fast enough to outpace a modern day regular BMW 3 Series diesel?

UK magazine Auto Express thought the only way to find out was to pit an E30 M3 Roberto Ravaglia edition against an F30 BMW 320d in a drag race. It’s important to mention that the E30 M3 Roberto Ravaglia edition has 212 bhp and 250 Nm of torque, while the 320d has 184 bhp and 380 Nm of torque.

BMW Paints M3 Individual in the Wrong Color But Doesn't Make Things Right…

Any BMW M3 is a special car, even if you go for the most basic model without options - any spirited driver would love to own one, regardless of doors, color and specs. However, M3Post member "b-thumper" explains that things are much more complicated and contrived than in the real world, and his story is quite an eye-opener.

Having owned an E46 M3 for eight years, b-thumper decided it was time to get his hands on the wheel of the latest V8-powered M3, so he set about trying to order one, but realizes deadline for the e90 model had passed on. So, he went for an E92, which he ordered through BMW's Individual program that allows buyers to choose special colors for the exterior and interior, and also opted for the European delivery program.

BMW Insider Say M4's Multi-Turbo Six to Redline Close to 8,000 RPM, New Spy Shots of Coupe

Our spies have gone in overboost mode in regards to the new BMW M4 Coupe securing another round of shots of the prototype finished in a Silverstone Metallic color (think ice-blue), while it was being thrashed in its…natural habitat, the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

But that's not the only news we have on the M4 as this morning, we were notified by the team over at the F80Bimmerpost forums about some fresh information on the car's powertrain specs.

New 2015 BMW M3 Sedan First Photos? Hold Your Rendered Horses...

We were tipped off this morning by a Carscoops reader about a set of purportedly official images showing the production 2015 BMW M3 sedan from Greek web-magazine Drive. We'll admit that the pictures did look real at a first glance but there were also a couple of things that were off and made us suspicious.

The first were the similarities of the front-quarter photo with this image of the 3-Series Sedan M Sport right up to the…last numbers of the license plate, and the second, the regular, single slats for the double kidney grilles as opposed to BMW M's new double slat design, as seen on the refreshed M5 and new M6 models.

EV West’s All-Electric BMW M3 E36 Makes 850 Lb-Ft of Torque at the Wheels

Some say that a true performance EV cannot be fully realized with today’s technology. They argue that the added weight of batteries makes handling and braking worse, and that the lack of engine noise detracts from the experience of driving.

But now, with cars like the Tesla Model S receiving praise for their performance, it’s definitely worth watching the video below – it’s Drive's drive of EV West’s Pikes Peak-ready BMW E36 M3, which has been converted to run on electricity.

C&D Gets Fresh Info on New BMW M-Cars from Company Boss Friedrich Nitschke

BMW has been forced to adapt its Motorsport division to the changing times, and while they may have been able to give us a five-liter V10-powered M5 in the past, the future holds nothing of the sort in store.

Actually, they may even use BMW’s new 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine as the base for a performance engine, as according to M division boss Friedrich Nitschke, they are now able to extract 185 to 200 hp per liter through turbocharging – a quick calculation hints at a theoretical output of around 300 hp.

BMW M3 E30 vs. Scion FR-S vs. VW Golf GTI in MT's Latest Head2Head Video

Fans of affordable sports cars have a new dilemma now that the Toyota FT-86/Scion FR-S/Subaru BR-Z trio has brought rear-wheel-drive into the equation. What’s better: a front-wheel-drive hot hatch like the VW Golf GTI or a rear-wheel-drive coupe like the ones offered by the Japanese carmakers?

To find the answer(s) to this question, two editors from MotorTrend and European Car took the Scion FR-S and the sixth-generation VW Golf GTI for a spin around the track. They also brought along a third car to the playground, the 1989 BMW M3 from the E30 generation, to serve as a benchmark.

What do You Think of a BMW M3 Touring Model?

Ever wonder what BMW's latest 3-Series Touring model would look like in M3 guise? Well, the lads from Bimmerpost did and they called in Photoshop renderer "Wild Speed" to turn their thoughts into images.

The M3 started out as a coupe and morphed into a soft-top convertible in its first iteration (E30), and later on, as a sedan as well (E36 and E90), but it has never been offered in a Touring guise – and from the looks of it, we won't be seeing an estate body style of the M model any time soon.

Time Capsule: 1999 BMW M3 E36 Coupe has Only 3,008 Miles and a Price Tag of $50,000!

Finding a low mileage BMW M3 E92 Coupe is a walk at the park (or at your local dealer, if you want to be precise…); an E46 generation model (2001-2006), not so much, but still doable.

Basically, the further back you go in time, the harder it gets, and while stumbling upon an unmolested E36 generation M3 (1992-1999) is considerably easier than finding an E30 (1985-1992) as the latter was produced in much smaller numbers, it’s a one in a million chance to discover such a low mileage example as we did on Autotrader.

BMW M4 Coupe and M3 Sedan Concepts Realistically Imagined

The word on the street is that BMW is making plans to unwrap a thinly disguised concept version of the M3 sedan at the Frankfurt motor show in September, with the final production model to appear in dealerships around the world in 2014.

Like many other publications, Britain's Car Magazine has come up with an illustration to give us an idea of what to expect about the M3 sedan's looks in its latest issue.

And it's not alone, as the creative minds over at Bimmerpost used their Photoshop skills to turn the BMW 4-Series Coupe Concept from the Detroit Motor Show into an impressive M4 Coupe study.

RS-Racingteam Turns BMW M3 Into a Lightweight Track Racer

If you visit one of BMW's public websites here in the US, in Europe and other countries around the world, the only M3s available for order are Coupe and Convertible models as the Germans have ended production of the four-door sedan iteration.

However, as we learned today, there's still a way to get into a brand-new E90 M3 sedan via German aftermarket and motorsports outfit RS-Racingteam, which is offering new examples of the sports car.

Spy Shots: New BMW M3 Sedan Dashing through the Snow

Driving in the snow to make your living sounds like a drag, unless you happen to be a test driver for a sports carmaker like BMW's M sub-brand, in which case, we would happily exchange places.

This BMW employee was out testing the next generation of the M3 sedan, which from next year, will be the only M3 you will be able to buy (unless, the Germans have plans for a Touring variant) as the coupe and convertible will be renamed after a UK motorway to M4.
