McLaren P1 Needs a Push After Breaking Down at Concorso d'Eleganza

Out of all the places in the world, this McLaren P1 decided to break down at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza, where it was supposed to wow the spectators with the sound of its V8 hybrid powerplant.

However, when the time came for the engine to be started, the P1’s dashboard display showed some not very encouraging messages like “Park Brake Fault – Call McLaren Service Centre” and ”ESC Fault Vehicle Limphome - Go to McLaren Service Centre”, as the video uploaded by Marchettino shows.

BMW’s first-ever collaboration with renowned Italian design house Pininfarina resulted in the Gran Lusso Coupe, a luxury grand tourer that was displayed at this year’s Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza.

As we find out from Pininfarina’s design director Fabio Filippini, the concept’s styling was entirely the Italians' job, with the Bavarian carmaker only checking from time to time that the project would fit its design DNA.

New BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 Coupé Looks More 7-Series Coupe than 8-Series [Video]

BMW and Pininfarina have blown the covers off their new jointly designed and developed Gran Lusso Coupé in advanced of the one-off model's world premiere at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013 this weekend.

The large coupe model is the outcome of the first collaboration between BMW and Pininfarina, and it follows the BMW Z4-based Zagato Coupé presented at last year's Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

When the Bavarian carmaker shared a sketch and a couple of cropped details of the car along with the information that it uses a V12 powerplant earlier this month, the first thing that came to mind was the possibility of a 21st century version of the 8-Series Coupe that was built from 1989 to 1999.

In our eyes, the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 Coupé looks more like a two-door, coachbuilt version of a future 7-Series made to compete against the Bentley Continental GT, than a true successor to the 8-Series, but BMW officials think otherwise.

New BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 Coupé Brings Back Memories of the 8-Series

The last time BMW had a V12-powered coupe in its range was at the end of the previous decade with the range topping versions of the 8-Series (the 850Ci and 850CSi specifically). The reason why we mention this has to do with the Bavarian carmaker's announcement on the world premiere of the one-off Pininfarina Gran Lusso Coupé at the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este 2013 on May 24.

Designed and created in collaboration with famed Italian design house Pininfarina, the Gran Lusso Coupé follows in the footsteps of the BMW Z4-based Zagato Coupé that was presented at last year's Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este.

MKC Concept is Lincoln’s Entry in the Compact Crossover Segment [Photos & Video]

Last year, Lincoln sales fell by 4 percent to 82,150 units in the U.S. despite the market posting a 13 percent increase compared to 2011. It’s obvious that Ford’s luxury car brand has a lot of work to do to catch up with its competitors.

The MKC Concept that will premiere at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in Detroit is part of that offensive that includes four all-new models aimed at the most popular segments in the next four years.

The compact luxury crossover segment, which has grown by nearly 60 percent in 2012 and more than 200 percent in the last four years, is one of them and Lincoln will compete with the MKC.

Ron Dennis is dead serious about everything he does. This is what has made McLaren a front-runner in Formula 1, filling its cabinets with countless trophies, and this is what has made him build a new car company from scratch.

If you already own a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and a McLaren MP4-12C, that’s practically all the production cars the Woking-based company has built so far, chances are that, apart from being very rich, you are a very good and respected client.

If there's an auto show with an affluent crowd, you can rest assure that Bugatti will pop up with a special edition version of one of its cars.

BMW and Zagato Get Together Again to Create a Striking Roadster Concept

After the positive reaction the Z4-based Zagato Coupe concept received at the Concorso d’Elleganza Villa d’Este in Italy earlier this year, BMW chief designer Adrian van Hooydonk and Andrea Zagato decided to collaborate again and produce yet another concept, this time for the 2012 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in California.

The fruit of this collaboration, which appeared in an obscure teaser image a couple of days ago, is a roadster version of the Zagato Coupe that we saw in Italy. One may assume that BMW and Zagato have simply taken that car and chopped off the roof (which would be ironic, since the Z4 is a roadster), but this is not the case.

The BMW Zagato Roadster, which was constructed in just six weeks, certainly looks a lot like its fixed-roof sibling.

But that's not a bad thing as the aggressive, “three dimensional” (in Zagato talk) front end with the large air intakes, contoured hood with integral air scoops, the black A-pillars, the sculpted sides and the overall solid stance and minimal overhangs of the concept make for a muscular look.

McLaren Presents One-Off X-1 Based on the MP4-12C and Created for One of its Clients

Borrowing a page from Ferrari, which has been in the business of building bespoke models for its affluent clients for decades, McLaren blew the covers off a one-of-a-kind production model based on the MP4-12C that was designed for an anonymous car enthusiast.

Named the McLaren X-1, the supercar will make its world premiere at an exclusive event later on Friday at the Pebble Beach Concours in Monterey, California.

The X-1 was built by McLaren Special Operations (MSO), which is the division of McLaren Automotive responsible for the delivery of bespoke projects.

"One of our clients who already owned a McLaren F1, a Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren and now a 12C, wanted a unique car," explains MSO Programme Director, Paul MacKenzie.

"The conversation began with our Executive Chairman Ron Dennis almost three years ago − before the 12C was even launched. The client wanted a machine that had all the capability of the 12C but wrapped in a unique body that reflected his needs and personality."
