Volvo Promises All-New XC90 Will Get "World-Class Safety and Support Features"

It may not come as a surprise to you that Volvo will be cramming all of its latest and most advanced “safety and support features” into their all-new XC90, which is set for its official debut around the end of next year, but they are.

In fact, they even put out a press release to inform us that their next flagship SUV will be getting Pedestrian Detection in darkness, road edge and barrier detection (which works on roads without side markings) and adaptive cruise control, with both of the latter two also featuring “steer assist.”

Volvo to Launch Next XC90 in 2014, will Be the First Car Developed with Geely

Volvo will introduce its first all-new vehicle developed under the ownership of China’s Zhejiang Geely Holding Group in late 2014. The announcement was made by Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson, who added that the car will be a successor for to the XC90 SUV.

The platform for the next-generation XC90 is being engineered in Sweden and will also be used by the successor to the S80 sedan. The platform is known internally as SPA, which stands for Scalable Product Architecture, as it can accommodate various power trains, including Volvo’s first production plug-in hybrid system.

Spied: Volvo Rolls Out First Test Mules for All-New 2015 XC90

At last, Volvo has begun field tests of its long overdue replacement for the XC90 that will be introduced in late 2014 or (more likely) in early 2015. All this will begin to change from late next year when Volvo introduces the long awaited successor to its popular XC90 SUV, as it will be the first model in the range to use the company's all-new scalable platform architecture (SPA), which was announced in 2011 through the "You Concept" sedan.

Volvo Exec Confirms S60 and S80 Facelifts for 2013, New XC90 Coming in late 2014

The press days of the 2012 Mondial de l'Automobile in Pars are long gone, but the first major car show of the fall season continues to provide us with news on future models.

Speaking to Autonews Europe on the sidelines of the show last week, Doug Speck, global head of marketing and sales for Volvo Car, said that the Swedish automaker plans a "major refresh" for two of its sedans.

These include the mid-size S60 that was only just presented in 2010, and the larger S80 that has been in production since 2006 having been modestly updated in 2010.

Volvo XC90 "Delightfully Refreshed" for 2013 Model Year, Prices Start from $39,500*

Another new model year, another string of tweaks for Volvo's XC90 SUV that has entered its tenth year in production with no replacement in sight.

For the 2013 model year, Volvo claims that the mid-size SUV has been "delightfully refreshed" (their words, not ours), and that the result is "the most significantly updated XC90 since its launch a decade ago".

Apparently, someone at Volvo forgot about the 2006 facelift that brought several visual and mechanical upgrades including a redesigned snout and the introduction of a then new straight-six engine.
