Chevrolet Unveils 2014 Malibu with Cosmetic, Space and Engine Tweaks

When an automaker releases a facelift for a model that has only been on the market for less than a year, it means it’s not happy with the way the public and the press alike received said car. This is the case with General Motors and the 8th generation Chevrolet Malibu that was introduced in the States in the second half of 2012.

General Motors rushed to update the Malibu for the 2014 model year with some light styling changes, while also improving interior space, and tweaking its powertrains and chassis.

Updated 2014 Chevrolet Malibu to Provide More Rear Space as Well

It's no secret that General Motors hasn't really been happy with the lukewarm reception of its latest Chevrolet Malibu sedan, nor that it is planning to do something about it by ushering in an early refresh later this year.

GM CEO Dan Akerson himself confirmed the upcoming facelift to reporters last month revealing that it will include a re-done fascia.

Now we're learning more details about the update thanks to a Bloomberg report shared by Automotive News, citing two people familiar with GM's efforts, who asked the news agency to keep their names secret.

It’s no secret that the Chevrolet Malibu compact saloon hasn’t been received as well as GM hoped for, be that by the automotive press or the consumers.

Chevrolet to Rush in a Facelift for New Malibu Next Year to Address Criticism and Lackluster Sales

Normally, automakers present a mid-cycle update approximately three to four years after the launch of a new model. If a refresh comes earlier, this means that a car manufacturer is disappointed by the way it has been received by consumers, the media or both.

Such was the case with the 2012 Honda Civic that received a makeover only 18 months after its conception, with the 2013 model making its official debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show last week.

Honda isn’t the only company to go down this road as General Motors is also planning to revamp one of its newest entries in the market, the 2013 Chevrolet Malibu.
