L'Automobile Shows Off New Peugeot 308 in Detail, Inside and Out

The new Peugeot 308 has been met with a generally positive attitude towards the way it looks, and with improved efficiency, levels of technology and the new style. it shows PSA is trying hard to come up with something competitive in the class, for once…The first reviews of the car have yet to be released, but until then we can still get a better look at it via a new video released by L’Automobile Magazine, of France. New Peugeot 308 Station Wagon Speculatively Rendered

At this point, whatever you do, don’t Google a photo of the old Peugeot 308 SW (estate/wagon) because I think it is one of the most unsuccessful attempts at turning a decently stylish hatchback into a load-lugger. The back is far too busy and bulky, and calling the light clusters oversized is an understatement.

Now, though, that the new 308 has been revealed, means people can tamper with the photos and create different versions of it, speculating what the manufacturer might end up doing some time from now, like the above rendering from DesignRM.

All-New and All-Important Peugeot 308 Hatchback Breaks Cover

Meet the new Peugeot 308; redesigned from the ground up to be a much more distinctive car than lackluster model it replaces. Gone is the bubbly styling and awkward proportioning, and in its place, we have a sleeker looking model with the wheels pushed back to the corners – it’s not bad. This is a more mature-looking hatch, with more chiseled features, clearer lines and a very stout and purposeful rear end.

At the front the, the 4.25 meter-long 308 sports an adaptation of Peugeot's new family face, featuring slim full-LED headlamps which, according to the French brand, are “standard on the majority of trim levels and a world-first in the segment” – we thought the SEAT Leon was first, though, only high-spec cars get the swanky new diodes, so that must count too.

First Official Photos of the All-New 2014 Peugeot 308 Hatchback?

A Carscoops reader who goes under the nickname "Instacar69" tipped us off about a group of cropped pictures, purportedly showing parts of the new generation of Peugeot's 308 compact hatchback before a reported world premiere this Monday, on May 13.

We can't vouch for their authenticity yet, but after snooping around on the web, we found a flyer from French publication Automobile-Magazine with a photo-shopped image of the next 308 (first pic in the gallery) and the wording "Découvrez la nouvelle Peugeot 308 des le 13 Mai sur notre site", which translates to "Discover the new Peugeot 308 on May 13 on our site", so there's a good chance that they are real.

Remembering Clarkson’s Review of Peugeot's 306, Will the New 308 be Anything Like it?

Back in the mid-1990s, Peugeots were appreciated in Europe for their excellent handling characteristics. The French really knew how to tune a chassis in those days, and it showed. However, that fun-to-drive character and pretty if a bit understated looks, gave way to gaping mouths (grilles) with huge headlights on either side, mediocre dynamics and lots of dealer discounts to keep the sales ball rolling. Peugeot to Develop New 308 GTi and Top-Spec 308 XY, Possible 208 R Model as Well

Peugeot has seen the lime light with the 208 GTi many times in recent months. Now, they want to keep it that way with a “proper” hot-hatch version of the next generation 308, also badged as a GTi, as well as an even more extreme 208, bearing an “R” badge, just like the RCZ R, which is getting 260hp. Peugeot Product Boss Says Next 308 will be "Very Different", Front Inspired by Onyx Concept

The next-generation Peugeot 308 will be “very different” from the current model, and will have a shape that will make it a more direct competitor for the Ford Focus and Volkswagen Golf, according to Peugeot product boss Laurent Blanchet who spoke to Autocar. Blanchet said the new car will look more like a conventional hatchback than the current 308, which he described as being a mix between a saloon and a hatch. Read more »

Spy Shots: Peugeot Nabbed Testing the New 308 Hatch Out in the Cold

If Peugeot is to muddle through the European debt crisis, it needs to strengthen its presence and gain market share in key categories such the popular B- and C-segments.

The French carmaker has already launched its main supermini competitor in the form of the brand-new 208 hatchback and will soon throw the new 2008 small crossover into the market, so it's now focusing on the development of the compact 308's replacement that will challenge the likes of the VW Golf Mk7 and Ford Focus.

Amazingly, Peugeot's Smiley Grille Saves Another Dog's Life

Say what you want about the aesthetics of the smiley-shaped grille of older Peugeot cars, but we know that it has proved its worth when it comes to saving the lives of dogs.

How else can you explain the fact that for the second time (see the first incident here), we have discovered a video showing a pooch that made it out alive after being hit by what looks to be a Peugeot 308 307 compact hatchback?

According to the poster of the clip, the dog was allegedly hit at a speed of 90km/h (56mph), which sounds a lot to us, but without additional information, there's no way of being sure.

Spy Shots: Peugeot's 308 Replacement Snagged in Production Form

While this isn't the first time we have spotted Peugeot testing a replacement for the 308 compact hatchback, the previous prototypes were test mules, meaning the French company's engineers used a modified version of the current model's body to cover the new platform.

Now, our spies snapped some pictures of a development prototype wearing the body of the actual production model that's slated to go on sale late next year.
