This Is What It's Like to Live with a Lancia Stratos Every Day

Owning a Lancia Stratos Stradale has to be quite an experience. It was only built because Lancia had to make street versions of its Stratos rally car to homologate it for the World Rally Championship (WRC).

With that in mind, it should surprise no one that, in terms of quality and build, the road-going Stratos fares poor even when compared to a kit car. That’s because it was only an appendix to the rally Stratos, a car built with only one purpose in mind: to win WRC titles. And indeed it did - in 1974, 1975 and 1976.

Could the 2003 Fulvia Coupe Concept Have Helped Revive Lancia?

Of all the car-making nations in the world, Italy has probably the richest tradition in manufacturing affordable coupes. Even in the 1990s and early 2000s, when the Fiat Group wasn’t in great financial shape, the affordable Italian coupe lived on through the Fiat Coupe and Alfa Romeo GTV.

Both were offering Italian style and decent performance for an affordable price, but during this time, Fiat’s other brand, Lancia, had no sports coupe in its lineup, (well, there was the Kappa Coupe, but it was nowhere near a sports car)

Lancia Fans Target Marchionne on Facebook for Transforming the Brand into a Chrysler Clone

Reducing a brand with such a rich heritage like Lancia to selling rebadged Chryslers must be a hard thing to live with for fans. To express their anger, some hardcore Lancia enthusiasts have set up a Facebook page called “Si a Lancia, No a Marchionne”.

No need to translate that; it is an Italian's elegant way of saying that Fiat and Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne should stop trying to turn Lancia into a Chrysler clone.

New Lancia Flavia Convertible Mega Gallery with 88 HD Photos

The Fiat Group's inability to offer the Chrysler 200 with a diesel engine in Europe meant that even though the company created Lancia-badged concepts of both the sedan and convertible variants of the mid-size model, only the latter would make it into production.

The reasoning behind Fiat's decision is that while the absence of a diesel option automatically kills chances of any success for the Lancia Flavia saloon in Europe, the convertible can attract buyers even with a gasoline-engine only.

Now, with European sales of the Flavia Convertible well underway in select markets including, but not limited to, Italy, Germany, France and Sweden, the Italian carmaker dropped a slew of photos for those with a genuine interest in the car or for those just want to see what a 200 Convertible with a Lancia logo looks like.
