Opel Reportedly Bringing RWD Monza Coupe Concept to Frankfurt, May Preview Buick Model

Close to two decades after the demise of the Calibra, Opel (and consequently its British Vauxhall arm) will test the public’s reaction at the Frankfurt motor show in September with the Monza study, a coupe that may preview a future Audi A5 and BMW 4-Series rival.

According to a report from Auto Bild, the Opel Monza study will feature a sharp design and, surprisingly, a rear-wheel drive setup. The name Monza was also used by a RWD Opel coupe in the 1970s and 1980s.

Buick Reattas Assemble Again in California for 2nd Annual Rally

The funny thing with cars that you may have dismissed for any number of reasons when they were parked spanking-new in dealership lots, and which could range from their design to their engineering and cost, is that there's always the possibility you may find them interesting enough to collect after few decades have passed by.

The even bigger irony is that sometimes, it's precisely those quirky characteristics and features, which would have once deterred you to buy one new, that make you want one as a used collectors model…

GM Boss Wants the Opel Cascada and Adam in the U.S. as Buicks

Only days ago we reported that Dan Akerson, General Motors’ CEO, wants Opel/Vauxhall and Buick to be even more closely bound, even though they already share three models – Opel Insignia/Buick Regal, Opel Astra Sedan/Buick Verano and Opel Mokka/Buick Encore.

According to a new report from Automotive News, Akerson would like to bring more Opel/Vauxhall models to the U.S., with the Adam city car and the Cascada four-seat convertible being the most likely candidates.

Buick Turns 110 This Year, Names 11 Representative Models for Each Decade

For its 110th anniversary year, Buick has chosen 11 representative models for each decade of its existence. Of course, choosing just one model for a 10-year period can be a difficult job and Buick’s choices can stir debate. But I'll have to assume that’s exactly what Buick wants, so here are the 11 most representative models as the carmaker sees them. Read more »

Revised 2014 Buick LaCrosse Sedan Priced from $34,060

GM has released pricing information for its refreshed 2014 Buick LaCrosse sedan, following the car's world premiere at this year's New York Auto Show in April and shortly before it goes on sale in the States.

Like its predecessor, the 2014MY LaCrosse offers buyers a choice of two engines, a 36mph highway 2.4-liter engine with eAssist or a 304hp 3.6-liter direct-injected V6, that returns 18 city/28 mpg highway for front-wheel drive models and 17/26 mpg for all-wheel drive, both linked to a standard six-speed automatic transmission.

Opel-Buick Integration to Grow Stronger, Says GM CEO

A look at the current Buick range reveals that the U.S. brand sells three rebadged Opel/Vauxhall models. We’re talking about the Regal (Opel Insignia), Verano (Opel Astra Sedan) and Encore (Opel Mokka). This trend will continue, GM CEO Dan Akerson has revealed, as the largest U.S. carmaker wants the Buick and Opel brands to integrate even more in the future in order to save development costs. A Video Presentation of the Made-in-China Buick Riviera Coupe Concept

Last week, General Motors pulled the wraps off a gull wing, two-door Buick Riviera concept at the Auto China 2013 motor show in Shanghai. Even though GM has no plans to produce such a model, the Riviera Concept's goal is to give us an idea of how Buick's design language will evolve in its next generation of cars, for both North America and China, which is the brand's biggest market.

"The new Riviera offers a preview of Buick's future design language," Shanghai General Motors Corp. President Ye Yongming said in a statement.

This is How Buick Sports Up its Cars in China

Placed a little further behind from Buick's new Riviera Concept Coupe at the Shanghai motor show floor are two tuned versions of the American brand's Chinese market Regal GS sedan and Excelle XT hatchback, which European consumers will recognize as the (pre-facelift) Opel / Vauxhall Insignia and Astra respectively. General Motors May Sell Chinese-Built Cars in the USA

Would you currently buy a car made in China, with all of the bad publicity, those old catastrophic crash test videos and the general lack of experience in building automobiles? Well, of course, that depends on which company makes them, but you may be faced with the decision sooner than you'd think, because apparently, GM has expressed its desire to build some of its cars in China and export them to other markets.

Currently, GM's plan in China is to construct four new plants, in order to considerably boost capacity, and raise the number of local dealers to 5,100 by 2015 (today, there are 3,800 sales points, and another 400 will be added in 2013).

Buick Revives Riviera Nameplate Again with Another Concept Coupe for China

Did you feel a sense of déjà vu upon hearing the name and looking at the pictures of GM's new Buick Riviera Concept? If the answer is yes, then you likely remember the Buick Riviera Coupe Concept from the 2007 Shanghai Auto Show.

While that study never materialized into a production car, GM's Shanghai GM and Pan Asia Technical Automotive Center (PATAC) joint ventures are giving the project a fresh try with a new concept at this weekend's 2013 Shanghai motor show.

Buick Shows Facelifted 2014 Regal, GS Drops from 270HP to 259HP

The unveiling of the 2014 LaCrosse on Monday was followed today by the release of the first pictures and details of Buick's second world premiere for the New York International Auto Show, the 2014 Regal in both regular and GS trims.

Perhaps the most interesting and at the same time, somewhat disappointing news for the Opel / Vauxhal Insignia's American counterpart, is the replacement of the outgoing Regal GS' 2.0-liter turbocharged unit that produces 270hp and 295 lb.-ft. of torque (400Nm), with a new 2.0-liter force fed four-cylinder rated at 259hp and 295 lb-ft (400Nm).

Facelifted 2014 Buick Regal Appears in LaCrosse Pictures and Video

To demonstrate the updated 2014 LaCrosse sedan's new safety features such as the Side Blind Zone Alert and Forward Collision Alert, Buick's creative department had to use a second vehicle, which as you would imagine, is another model from the brand's range.

Instead of placing another LaCrosse, though, Buick used a digital version of the 2014 Regal, as pointed out by Carscoops reader Chien-Jay.

Buick Promotes 2013 Encore as a New Breed of Luxury Car in a World of Dinosaurs

Badge engineering is a widespread practice in these cash-strapped days of the automotive industry – manufacturers are trying to sell their cars in different markets, under different names and as altogether different propositions. Take the 2013 Buick Encore crossover, for example, which has just aired its first TV ad.

Buick is trying to pitch the Encore as being a new breed of compact and nimble luxury cars, in a world full of oversized dinosaurs (the ad itself looks a lot like an episode from the Flintstones).

GM Confirms 5 World Premieres for NY Show, Including Redesigned Camaro and New Cadillac

The world's automotive eyes may be focused on the ongoing Geneva International Auto Salon, but there's another important event coming up this month, the 2013 New York International Auto Show, and we just learned that General Motors will be heading to the Big Apple with no less than five world premieres and a North American debut.

Besides the new Chevrolet SS sports sedan that we already know about, the other four world premieres from GM are a "refreshed" version of the 2014 Chevrolet Camaro, which the company says "advances the design and performance attributes that have made it the most popular sports car under $50,000 for three consecutive years," two new Buicks and a Cadillac.
