Subaru Builds New WRX STI tS TYPE RA Special Only for Japan [w/Video]

Japanese automakers never really achieved any notable success in naming their cars and Subaru isn't exactly helping change that notion with the new WRX STI tS TYPE RA, which is a special edition version of its high-performance Impreza sedan made exclusively for the local market.

Did we mention that there's also an optionally available package, with which the car's name becomes the "Subaru WRX STI tS TYPE RA NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE"?

Reckless Subaru Boy Racer Learns the Hard Way that Public Roads are Not Racetracks [Updated]

Unfortunately, for regular drivers minding their own business, sometimes they share the road with so-called boy-racers who mistake public streets for Need for Speed video game stages. Considering that many of these boy racers drive powerful cars, like the person in the following video, the outcome of their “adventures” is far too often a tragic one. Read more »

"Mystery" Prototype Testing at Mulholland is the 2015 Subaru WRX - Plus Bonus Footage

One of the many regular car- and motorcycle-spotters at the infamous Mulholland Drive, just outside of Los Angeles, was on hand to film several passes of what he described as a "Mystery Car".

"Some Mulholland passes from an un-named car," wrote YouTube author 31200MulhollandHwy, adding that, "CHP [California Highway Patrol] closed the road intermittently - Japanese crew wouldn't give any info on car."

Watch the 2015 Subaru WRX Prototype Run In and Out of the Nürburgring

We know what your first question will be about the spy video and these latest shots of the 2015 Subaru WRX prototype, but unfortunately, we can't give you an answer yet if this is the wishy-washy (read complete letdown), production version of the dramatic WRX Concept, a WRX iteration of the current Impreza to be offered before or alongside the aforementioned WRX, or an early test mule. 2015 Subaru WRX Scooped: If This Is It, be Prepared for a Styling Letdown…

One of the worst things about impressive concept cars such as the new Subaru WRX that was by far, the most talked about (in a very positive way) world premiere at the recent 2013 New York Auto Show, is when carmakers water down the design on their production iterations.

Could this be the case with the upcoming Subaru WRX? Well, if the camouflaged Subaru prototype that our scoop photographers just captured in Germany is indeed the WRX, then the answer is yes, as there's no denying that it follows in the footsteps of its predecessors simply wearing a sportier kit over the regular Impreza sedan's body.

Subaru Design Boss Osamu Namba Talks WRX Concept in New Video

Subaru’s stunning WRX Concept that was revealed at the 2013 New York International Auto Show has given enthusiasts big hopes for the upcoming WRX and the WRX STI flagship model. Bring it On: Subaru WRX Concept Premieres at the New York Auto Show [w/Video]

Subaru is finally contemplating what every sensible gearhead has been telling both Subaru and Mitsubishi to do with their excellent Impreza WRX / STI and Lancer Evolution models, respectively, for decades now: keep their dynamic characteristics and dress them in a unique body that has nothing in common with their mainstream models.

While Mitsubishi is still thinking what to do with the EVO series in general, Subaru is showing us what it has in store for us with the next generation WRX, and its more powerful STi sibling, with the world premiere of the all-new WRX Concept car at the New York International Auto Show.

The study adopts a body style that most carmakers like to call a "four-door coupe", adorned with all the aggressive details one would expect from a WRX model (with a hint of Lancer EVO, some might say) like the powerbulge on the hood, muscular wheel arches that make room for the 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40ZR20 Dunlop rubber and a prominent rear diffuser. Only now, all these elements look natural and not planted like on the Impreza models.

The study measures 178.0 inches (4,521mm) long, 74.4 inches (1,889mm) wide and 54.7 inches (1,389mm) tall, which makes it slightly shorter, lower and wider than the Impreza Mk4 sedan. Its wheelbase is also significantly longer at 108.7 inches (2,761mm) compared to the Impreza's at 104.1 inches (2,644mm).
