MT Says New Porsche Cayman S is a Sports Car ‘In the Classic Sense’

The Porsche Cayman S is no longer a car for those who could not afford a 911, as you can specify it to match and even surpass its bigger brother in terms of pricing. I mean, the example MotorTrend magazine tested costs a whopping $101,200, apparently because it had a few options each worth “seven grand.” Still, it is explained that can enjoy this car, even if all you specify is the PDK gearbox and the sports exhaust system. Poll: Which One Would You Go For, the Porsche Cayman or Alfa Romeo 4C?

We have been blessed in recent years with lots of excellent sports cars, from a variety of manufacturers approaching the problem from their own unique perspective.

One carmaker that had been inactive in this particular sporty market sector for a while is Alfa Romeo that has returned it pretty 4C. It promises to be a very enjoyable driving package, with ultra-low weight and punchy turbocharged engine – sure, it won’t please the ear as much as some of the six-cylinder cars, but it is as fast if not quicker than some very unlikely competitors, like Porsche’s reportedly brilliant-to-drive new Cayman.

StudioTorino Puts an Italian Twist to New Porsche Cayman, Only 20 will be Built

Whereas the previous model we showed you from StudioTorino, the Mercedes-Benz SL Shooting Brake, was a purely conceptual project, the Porsche Cayman S-based Moncenisio previewed in these sketches will be built in a limited run of 20 numbered units that will be available for order beginning from this November, following the release a real-life prototype model in October.

The Italian design studio and coachbuilder will keep the Porsche Cayman S' mechanicals intact, meaning it will be powered by a 321hp (325PS) 3.4-liter flat-six engine linked to either a manual gearbox or a PDK dual-clutch transmission.

Porsche Delivers 15,000 "Sports Cars" in May, 5,800 of Which Were 911s, Boxsters and Caymans

Porsche announced on Thursday that it delivered 15,020 vehicles globally last month, 13 percent more than in the same month last year. This brings the total number of sales for the first five months of the year to 67,261 – up 19 percent compared to January – May 2012.

What’s interesting is that Porsche’s release says deliveries reached 15,000 sports cars in May, which in my view, is a clear abuse of the term "sports car". A closer look reveals that a little over a third of these vehicles were from the 911 and Boxster/Cayman ranges, with the rest comprised of Cayenne SUVs and Panamera saloons (or liftbacks, to be precise).

Drive Asks If a Sleeper Audi S4 Avant is a Better Car than a Slower Porsche Cayman

Chris Harris proved that it is a worthwhile effort to spend a few bucks on an engine remap, especially if the car in question is an Audi S4, powered by a supercharged V6 engine.

Now, featured for the first time on Tuned, alongside usual host Matt Farah, Harris hands over the keys to his German estate over to the much larger built American, while he plays catch-up in a Porsche Cayman, which is not the S, and it is bashed for being too slow.

Techart's Subtle Updates Bring More Style to the Porsche Cayman Coupe

It’s safe to say that, the second-generation Porsche Cayman is more stylish and sharp overall compared to its predecessor, but that didn’t stop the folks from Techart to take a shot at making it look even better.

Their aerodynamic kit for the Cayman includes a front apron fitted with a Techart two-part front spoiler, integrated splitter, as well as a redesigned and bigger central air duct, that not only gives the car a more aggressive look but also feeds the engine with more air.

Porsche Cayman S Goes Snow Drifting and Tops Out at 290km/h – 180mph

With the right set of tires and an experienced pair of hands behind the wheel, a mid-engined sports car like the new Porsche Cayman S (981) can be quite a joyful toy on a snow-covered track, as Sport Auto's Christian Gebhardt proves in this video that was shot at the Hockenheim racetrack in Germany. Strangelove: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Loved the Corvette

It wasn’t red but a very loud yellow and it certainly didn’t look “little” as it stood in the car parking lot next to a Porsche Cayman S or the BMW 335i I had just stepped out from: so much for Prince’s song, then…

It wasn’t a Z06 or (heaven forbid) a ZR1; just a plain-Jane, 430HP Corvette C6 coupe. Despite never having driven America’s supercar before, I grabbed the Cayman's keys before you could say “Vette”.

I had a three-hour trip ahead of me, half of it on twisty mountain roads, and I figured I would be much better off with Zuffenhausen’s best-handling car than something with leaf springs in its suspension.

All-New Porsche Cayman Coupe Mk2: The First Official Photos

Porsche will push the covers off its brand new, second-generation Cayman at the Los Angeles Auto Show later today, but if you're in the mood for some official imagery ahead of the unveiling, here are three high-resolution pictures of the coupe.

There's no hiding the fact that the new Cayman is the hardtop sibling of the fourth-gen Boxster roadster (981) revealed in the beginning of 2012. The same, of course, holds true for the outgoing model, only this time, Porsche's designers seem to have done a much better job in integrating the roof onto the Boxster's body.

The First Camouflage Free Picture of the New 2013 Porsche Cayman?

One of the worst kept secrets of the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show is the new generation of the Porsche Cayman.

For starters, Porsche itself won't officially admit it's going to be there, and even though the car has yet to be revealed, we've had the chance to see both the exterior and interior with minimal camouflage.

U Spy: Porsche's New 2013 Cayman Coupe and Macan SUV Filmed in Stuttgart

While you can occasionally stumble on a 2013 Cayman at an airport warehouse in the U.S., there's no question that the best locations to spot a future Porsche model are the Nürburgring race track and the automaker's home city of Stuttgart in Germany.

CarScoop reader Toldi has made an art of capturing upcoming Porsche models on film and this time, he was able to scoop two prototypes, the 2013 Cayman coupe and the all-new Macan mid-size luxury crossover.

Porsche Cayman Coupe Slams Into the Rear End of a Truck without Lights

The driver of a Porsche Cayman coupe was filmed by an adjacent vehicle fitted with a dashboard-mounted camera smashing violently into the rear end of a truck at high speed.

The accident, which looks like it took place in China or at least in a neighboring country (if any of our readers can help with the translation, leave us a message in the comments), occurred when the Cayman driver didn't notice the truck that did not have any lights open at the back and was traveling on the left hand side of the road.

New 2013 Porsche Cayman Spotted Undisguised at a Warehouse!

Porsche isn't telling us what new "compact sports car" it plans to reveal at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show on November 28, but we all know that the Germans are talking about the new generation of the Cayman sports coupe.

And it is the next Cayman that Instagram user "Frod1966" captured on camera parked in what looks like a warehouse of some sort (we don't know where), wearing nothing but some fake decals on the headlamps and taillights in some twisted effort to hide its true identity from prying eyes. Evidently, the trick didn't work...

Porsche says it has selected the 2012 edition of the Los Angeles Auto Show, open to the public from November 30 to December 9, for the world premiere of a brand-new, never before seen model together with a US premiere.

The German company says the world debut will take place on November 28 and it concerns a "compact sports car". While Porsche won't name the car, from what we have heard, the "mystery" model is the new Cayman coupe based on the latest generation of the Boxster (981).

Chris Harris Compares Toyota GT86 Against Nissan 370Z and Used Porsche Cayman S

Like the rest of the motoring press, experienced road test editor Chris Harris has already driven the Toyota GT86 (Scion FR-S in the US) during its official launch in Spain. To say he came out all-enthusiastic would probably be an understatement; Harris was raving.

Cars, however, are not only judged on their own but against their rivals as well. Harris decided to test the GT86 on English roads to see if it feels as good as it did at the Spanish track six months ago. He also brought some stiff competition for good measure.

Our spy shooters and even some of our readers have been stalking the next Cayman sports coupe for months now as Porsche engineers continue to test the car on public roads and tracks alike.

U Spy: 2013 Porsche Cayman and Panamera Facelift Snagged on Film

Quite a day for future Porsche models as Carscoop reader Toldi sent in three videos showing two lightly camouflaged prototypes of the facelifted Panamera sports sedan and the all-new Cayman coupe.

We'll begin with the updated Panamera that receives a mid-life makeover for the 2013 model year. As evidenced by the cleverly placed disguise, both ends of Porsche's second best-seller after the Cayenne SUV will be redesigned to offer the Panamera a fresher look that's more in line with the new 911.
