Toyota Chairman Says BMW Joint Venture Coupe Should be Like the Supra

From the moment we learned about the Toyota and BMW joint venture for the development of a new coupe in the summer of 2012, the first thing that crossed our minds was a Supra replacement. We weren't the only ones to go there, as over the past year, we heard many voices supporting the same– even a BMW source told Autonews that the collaboration may result in the rebirth of the Toyota Supra.

Adding to these voices now is a high-ranking Toyota executive, and in particular, the brand's incoming chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada, who will soon replace Fujio Cho. Uchiyamada said he'd like the BMW co-developed sports car to be midsize vehicle "comparable" to the obsolete Supra, during an interview yesterday in Japan, according to Bloomberg News.

This Is Not Your Usual Swimsuit Model Driven in a Supercar Video [NSFW]

Former playmate Jessica Barton is also a drag racing enthusiast who loves driving fast cars on the strip. She used to own a Toyota Supra Mk4 modified for drag racing by Titan Motorsport that developed in excess of 1,100 horsepower. Unfortunately for her and the $100,000 she invested in parts, the car was stolen at the end of last year with only a few bodywork components found days later. Read more »

18-Year Old Builds a Toyota Supra Replica from a Celica Coupe

We don’t know about Denmark, but in the States, the fourth generation of the Toyota Supra (1992-2002) is not only a rare commodity nowadays – for example, we found 8 listed for sale on eBay and 91 on Autotrader, and that's for the entire USA- but a very expensive one at that, with unmolested, low mileage cars often exchanging hands for $40,000 or more.

The reason why we mention Denmark is that, CarScoop reader Daniel S. brought to our attention a replica of a Supra IV built upon a Toyota Celica coupe from 1994 that he found listed for sale in his country.

Woman Whacked by a Toyota Supra During Drift Stunt

Two powerful rear-wheel drive sports cars doing donuts around a woman, what could possibly…go wrong?

In all fairness, the two drivers of the Toyota Supra and Nissan Silvia (also called the 200SX) sports coupes were doing a great job applying their rubbery fragrance on the young lady posing in the middle until one of them started looking at the camera instead of the girl.

1,100HP-Strong Chevrolet Pickup Truck Terrorizes Sports Cars on the Highway

The makers of the TX2K12 video series have shared a clip of a highly modified Chevrolet pickup truck challenging numerous tuned sports cars including a Corvette, a Dodge Viper, an older generation Chevy Camaro, a Ford Mustang, and even an 800-hp Toyota Supra – all on public roads in Houston, Texas.

And yes, as you probably already have figured out, there's nothing legal nor safe about these street races…

Would you Believe that this Aston Martin DBS Replica is Based on a Toyota Supra?

Whereas some people transform the already wickedly fast in turbocharged outfit, fourth-generation Toyota Supra into mechanical beasts with 1,000-ponies under the hood, others, a very few to be honest, have slightly different plans for the Japanese sports car.

Take the British owner of this Toyota Supra, for example, who turned the coupe model into a replica of an Aston Martin DBS, supposedly inspired by the one featured in the 2008 James Bond flick, Quantum of Solace.

A Toyota Supra with 1,000 WHP, a Group of Motorcycles and a Cop

We are not aware of the laws in Sweden, but we have a hunch that the driver of the 1,000 wheel-horsepower, mid-1990s Toyota Supra and his motorcycle buddies featured in this video from Superretards broke at least a couple of them during their ride in the city of Västerås, located some 100km (~62miles) west of Stockholm.

No word on what happened after the police car appeared at the end of the short film. You can watch the two videos right past the jump.

Toyota Once Again Rumored to be Mulling a Replacement for the Supra

After so many reports about Toyota resurrecting the Supra, one would be inclined to doubt the persistent rumors.

On the other hand, we have the example of the on-again, off-again, on-again Acura/Honda NSX, which came into fruition with the presentation of the pre-production concept at the Detroit Auto show in January.

Taking everything we have heard and seen over the past year into consideration, most importantly Toyota's newly found commitment to developing cars with more emotional styling and handling characteristics, there is a strong possibility that these rumors about a Supra replacement originate from facts.

Officially, the last time Toyota hinted at a direct successor to the Supra was in 2007 with the FT-HS Concept, a sharp looking two-seater model powered by a 400-horsepower hybrid powertrain linking a 3.5-liter V6 petrol engine to an electric motor. That project ended with the financial crisis that ensued the following year.
