Porsche 911 Turbo with Gulf Oil Wrap Looks Neat, And with 650HP is Pretty Fast as Well

It’s not only Porsche itself that is celebrating the 911's 50th anniversary this year, as a number of tuners have also jumped in on the festive bandwagon. Germany's Cam-Shaft says it's honoring the nameplate's golden anniversary with the release of a special package for the 997-generation (built from 2005 through 2011) 911 Turbo. Read more »

Scoop: Porsche Goes Ballistic with New 991 GT2, the Fastest 911 Ever

If you ever wondered why Porsche fans called the 911 GT2 series the "widow maker", just consider this: the GT2 series is essentially a 911 Turbo without the all-wheel drive system that allows the latter to behave in a more cooperative and civilized manner, with even more power and less weight. Do we need to say more?

With the presentation of the new 991 Turbo and Turbo S having taken place last month, we have an idea of what to expect when the next generation of the GT2 hits Porsche dealerships next year.

Watch a Porsche 911 GT2 Driver Crash, Tumble and Then Walk Away on the 'Ring

Unlike this Porsche 911 GT2 RS owner who recently proved that Lady Luck exists on the Nürburgring racetrack, the person behind the wheel of the yellow 911 GT2 that you're about to watch in the following video, wasn't so fortunate, but on the other hand, he was able to walk away with minor injuries, which has to count for something.

Captured on the dashboard camera of a Citroen DS3 Racing, the Porsche driver comes into the picture when he flies by the French hatch, which at that point, was going around 160km/h (about 100mph). A few seconds later, we see the German sports car veering to the left, smashing into the protective barrier, which sends it into the air, and rolling on the ground.

Harris Pits Jaguar F-Type Against Porsche 911S Cabriolet and Aston Martin V8 Vantage Roadster

The Jaguar F-Type is a car that the British brand has great expectations, otherwise they wouldn’t have called it the spiritual successor to the legendary E-Type. Nevertheless, this is not the 1960s, and the F-Type has to stand up against much tougher competitors than the E-Type had to.

At least for the F-Type V8 S model that is powered by a 495-hp V8, the most feared competitor is the world’s default sports car, the Porsche 911 - in its Carrera S Cabriolet iteration. Chris Harris took both for a spin, adding the old and “slow” Aston V8 Vantage Roadster to the mix, and reached some interesting conclusions.

Chris Harris Drives the All-New 2014 Porsche 911 GT3

In many ways, the VW Golf GTI, the BMW M3 and the Porsche 911 GT3 have always been children of the same German family. Sure, there are fundamental differences from pricing to driving layouts, but you will also find key similarities in their core DNA and it’s not hard to see how the owner of one car could effortlessly jump into the other one – preferably, in the same order we mentioned them earlier.

The king of German, and for many drivers around the world, of all sports cars, is the 911 GT3, which represents the epitome of Porscheness.

Porsche Delivers 15,000 "Sports Cars" in May, 5,800 of Which Were 911s, Boxsters and Caymans

Porsche announced on Thursday that it delivered 15,020 vehicles globally last month, 13 percent more than in the same month last year. This brings the total number of sales for the first five months of the year to 67,261 – up 19 percent compared to January – May 2012.

What’s interesting is that Porsche’s release says deliveries reached 15,000 sports cars in May, which in my view, is a clear abuse of the term "sports car". A closer look reveals that a little over a third of these vehicles were from the 911 and Boxster/Cayman ranges, with the rest comprised of Cayenne SUVs and Panamera saloons (or liftbacks, to be precise).

MINI Says Happy Birthday to Porsche 911 with Special Photo Shoot

Well, now, isn't that sweet? Mini, the British brand that descended into the ownership of the BMW Group in 1994, is paying tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Porsche 911 sports car series with a dedicated photo shoot that brings together a classic Mini and a first gen 911 Targa, both sporting a similar, and may we add, rather lively, lime-yellow finish. New Porsche 911 50th Ann. Edition Priced from $124,100*, Plus First Video and Museum Shots

If you're keeping a close eye on the automotive headlines, you should already know about Porsche's 50th anniversary edition of the 911 that was released late last night. One piece of information that was missing from the original German release was U.S. pricing, which was announced today.

The 911 Carrera S-based 50th edition with the vintage styling cues like the classic Fuchs wheels and 1960s fabric designs used on the seats will go on sale in the United States this fall at a starting price of $124,100, not including a $950 destination charge (*).

Porsche 911 Becomes 50 Years Old, Celebrates with Vintage-Trimmed Special Edition

Old timers would probably have had a hard time believing it in 1963, but despite all odds, Porsche's legendary 911 sports car series is celebrating its golden anniversary this year.

While many things have changed in the world and, of course, in the 911 itself, since then, there are two basic elements that have defined all generations of the series: the trademark design and shape of the car, and the mounting of a flat-six engine behind the rear axle, which has its roots in the original VW Beetle.

For its Golden Jubilee, Porsche has crafted a special commemorative edition of the 911 Carrera S, with production appropriately limited to exactly 1,963 examples.

Ford Mustang Loses Traction, Takes a Swipe at Porsche 911 During Highway Race

And this is why they don't use real Porsches, Ferraris, Lamborghinis or any other expensive sports cars during the filming of street racing scenes in films like the Fast and Furious or the upcoming Need for Speed flick

B(r)ought to you by the crew from ThatRacingChannel (TRC), who for legal reasons cunningly state that, "The following video was digitally created in Mexico on a closed course," is this incident and almost costly accident that occurred when a heavily modded Ford Mustang drag raced a 997-generation (that’s the previous one) Porsche 911 on a public highway.

Bummer: Classic 1967 Porsche 911 Wrecked, Driver Ends Up in the Hospital

The joy of driving an old sports car is unsurpassed by anything most modern cars have to offer, with their heavy (but safe) bodies and electronic nannies that dull down all of the sensations. However, one can’t simply throw an old car into corners without a second thought, because the lack of electronic nannies and other safety aids mean that if you’re not fully in control (and experienced), chances of crashing are quite high… Read more »

OK-Chiptuning Manta-Porsche has Funny Name and Looks, but Packs Some Serious Punch

We won't blame you for lifting an eyebrow or two at the name of this car – "Ok-Chiptuning Manta-Porsche" as well as its colorful looks, both of which were inspired by the 1991 German action comedy "Manta, Manta".

While the protagonist of the film drove an Opel Manta coupe, Ok-Chiptuning chose a 996-generation Porsche 911 Turbo from 2002 for its tuning project. The exterior of the sports coupe was foil-wrapped in the same colors as the movie model, with the tuner adding a set of Opel logos on the new 19-inch, pink colored rims from TechArt shod in tires size 235/35-19 at the front and 305/30-19 on the rear axle.

Harris Pits Audi R8 V10 Plus Against Porsche’s 911 Turbo S and 750 HP Tuned Nissan GT-R

Chris Harris always seems to like comparative tests better than single-car reviews, simply because there is more to talk about, analyze and/or examine. Each of the chosen cars is driven in turn, and at the end, conclusions are drawn.

This time, he has chosen an Audi R8 V10 Plus, a Porsche 997 Turbo S and a Nissan GT-R. However, as he himself admits, just bringing any old GT-R wouldn’t do the competition justice (in terms of price, at least), so what he’s actually brought to the track is a Litchfield-tuned car, which reportedly has around 750 hp, a revised chassis and ceramic brakes.

Drive Tries Out Stripped Out Lightweight Air-Cooled Porsche 911 from 1985

There are people who like the tail-happy nature of old Porsche 911s, and they enjoy dancing with death on twisty roads with perilous scenery. Some want to take the feeling to the extreme, so they strip out their 911, give it all sorts of racing-derived components, and further emphasize its special handling characteristics. Read more »

Watch a Very, Very Lucky Porsche 911 GT2 RS Driver Chase a Carrera GT at the Nürburgring

Pop quiz: which Porsche is more powerful and faster, the 997-gen 991 GT2 RS or the Carrera GT? You might be forgiven for answering the latter, as it was Porsche’s hypercar and a Ferrari Enzo rival whether the former just a souped-up version 911 Turbo at half the GT’s price.

The numbers, however, tell a different story. The normally aspirated 5.7-liter V10 in the mid-engined Carrera GT churns out 612HP (620PS) for a 0-100 km/h (0-62 mph) acceleration time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h (205 mph). The twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter that’s hung out behind the rear axle of the 997 GT2 RS has an identical power output and top speed but is faster by 0.4 seconds in the customary 0-100 km/h sprint.

New Porsche 911 Turbo to be Offered Exclusively with PDK, Says Report

The new 991-based 911 Turbo is shaping up to be quite a machine. While its most recent predecessors have been good cars, they seem to lack the appeal of the base models or the lightweight GT2 and GT3 models. The Turbo has never been as precise a driving machine as the traditional rear-wheel drive models, but according to Road&Track, there is a lot to look forward to with the new model. Read more »
