McLaren MP4-12C Matches the Nissan GT-R’s 0 to 60 MPH Time of 2.8 Seconds [w/Videos]

According to official data from McLaren, the MP4-12C sports car covers the sprint from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) in 3.1 seconds. Naturally, the car should accelerate to 60 mph (96 km/h) slightly quicker, but by which margin? Well, the people at Drag Times put the MP4-12C to the test and found out the car accelerates from standstill to 60 mph in an impressive 2.8 seconds.

This matches the time set by a 2012 Nissan GT-R, also tested by Drag Times. Taking into account that the Nissan has an advanced AWD system and a brutal 4,100rpm launch control, the McLaren’s result is even more impressive.

McLaren P1 Needs a Push After Breaking Down at Concorso d'Eleganza

Out of all the places in the world, this McLaren P1 decided to break down at the Villa d’Este Concorso d’Eleganza, where it was supposed to wow the spectators with the sound of its V8 hybrid powerplant.

However, when the time came for the engine to be started, the P1’s dashboard display showed some not very encouraging messages like “Park Brake Fault – Call McLaren Service Centre” and ”ESC Fault Vehicle Limphome - Go to McLaren Service Centre”, as the video uploaded by Marchettino shows.

McLaren Says it Aims for Sub-7 Minute Nurburgring Lap Time with P1 Hypercar

It’s not the first time that McLaren has stated it is aiming to break the seven-minute barrier around the Nürburgring Nordschleife with their hybrid hypercar, the P1. Nevertheless, just to make their intentions more clear, the British carmaker entered cheeky mode and showed a slide in which a time of 6:33.26 was posted. The image was shared by Chinese website Autohome. Read more »

Spoiler-Less McLaren P1 Filmed Revving Outside of Company HQ

If you want a hybrid hypercar that is at the top of the technological and technical food chain, then the McLaren P1 and the Ferrari LaFerrari would be among your first options. It’s just like having to choose between a Ferrari 458 Italia and a McLaren MP4-12C – you either want cold, clinical precision, or you want a bit less of that and more ear caramel and Italian passion. McLaren Releases New Footage of P1 Cold Weather Testing

Cold weather testing is hugely important in the development process of a vehicle. If said car can’t withstand the harshest of conditions this planet can throw at it, then it will be improved until it can. That’s the purposes of taking camouflaged pre-production models up into the far reaches of northern Europe (mostly Sweden) – to test them to the extreme, and try to make them fail. Read more »

See what Happens when Your House Becomes the HQ of an F1 Team

To promote a competition that will grant a Formula 1 fan complete access to the Vodafone McLaren Mercedes team at the 2013 U.S. Grand Prix, team sponsor Mobil 1 has released a funny video showing what it would be like to rub shoulders (literally!) with the McLaren pit crew, at your own house. We're still eagerly awaiting for the first reviews on McLaren's new flagship supercar and the spiritual successor to the famed F1, the new P1, which made its first public appearance in production trim just last month in Geneva, but until then, we'll have to be content with whatever material comes our way. F1 Driver Sergio Perez Drives McLaren P1 Around Top Gear Track

Formula One pilots are really lucky to race for a team which also happens to have a road car building unit. Even better if that team is McLaren, which currently offers two highly potent production models, including the MP4-12C and the all-new P1.

Since Lewis Hamilton moved to Mercedes for the 2013 F1 season, Mexican driver Sergio Perez is the most familiar face McLaren has in the paddock.

McLaren P1: Ron Dennis Promises New Nürburgring and Top Gear Track Lap Records

Making the customary short video before the unveiling of your new supercar can be a drag; in the case of McLaren Automotive, though, prepping up one for the Geneva Motor Show debut of the P1 was a piece of cake.

Just reach into your huge Formula 1 archive, pick out Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button, add footage of the MP4-12C road car and, voila! You’re good to go.

New McLaren P1 Bows and Wows at the Geneva Auto Salon [w/Videos]

The old adage about racing improving the breed certainly applies to this year’s Geneva Motor Show. We’re not referring to the gorgeous 911 GT3 that will form the basis of Porsche's new racer but the two Formula 1 arch-rivals that launched their new hypercars at the Swiss show. Read more »

First Live Look at the New McLaren P1 from the Geneva Motor Show

Officially, the 83rd Geneva International Motor Show won't be opening its doors for the press until Tuesday, March 5, but that doesn't mean you can't get in the Palexpo – Arena, as YouTube user and Carscoop reader Tim a.k.a. Shmee150 proves with these two videos he dropped into our email-box. Read more »

Watch a Ferrari 458 Spider Stalk a McLaren P1 Hypercar in Traffic

After watching this video, we can’t but feel for the McLaren engineers trying to do their work testing or simply driving the P1 under normal conditions and having to deal with all the (justified) attention that comes along with the job.

On the other hand, we're also grateful for supercar-spotter and YouTube channel owner Shmee150 and his friend in a deliciously sounding Ferrari 458 Spider for tracking down and filming the pre-production P1, without making any inherently dangerous moves in the process (or at least none that we saw in this video).

McLaren Teases Production P1, Shows Digital Dash in Pictures and Video

With a rendering of the exterior, plus two images and a video of the digital instrument cluster, McLaren confirmed the production-ready version of its highly anticipated P1 hypercar for next month's Geneva auto show.

From a recent private event in New York City, we learned that the exterior of the P1 will remain largely intact, sans some minor changes to the vents of the front bumper and the mesh insert at the rear end, so no surprised there.

This, however, is the first time we see a part of the interior and in particular, the race-inspired digital dash readout that includes a "Race" mode with F1-style shift indicator.

McLaren Remembers its Founder at its 50th Anniversary, Launches New Film Series

Bruce McLaren was a man of many talents. Born in 1937 in New Zealand, he was not only a racing driver but also a racecar designer and engineer.

His racing career started when he was 14 years old. He won the 1959 U.S. Grand Prix at the age of 22 years and 80 days, becoming the youngest driver at the time to win a Formula 1 race. In 1963, he founded his own team, named Bruce McLaren Motor Racing Ltd., but continued to race for Cooper.

He quit in 1965 and announced that he would enter F1 next year with his own team. In 1966 he won the 24 Hour of Le Mans along with Chris Amon in a Ford GT40 and, two years later, gave his team its maiden F1 win at Spa.

McLaren P1 Shows Up Alongside MP4-12C Spider in 2013 Formula 1 Car Launch [w/Video]

We can safely say that McLaren is showing off its upcoming P1 hypercar quite a lot lately – not that we’re complaining, of course. Barely a week after releasing a new video and a set of images of an “XP” (for “experimental”) test car with a black and white camouflage that did nothing to hide its lines, the company chose its 2013 Formula 1 contender’s launch to flaunt the P1 again. McLaren Continues Development of P1 Hypercar, Shares New Track Video

Since its unveiling at last year’s Paris Auto Show, McLaren’s new hypercar, the P1, has generated quite a lot of interest. If that’s natural with any such car, in the case of the P1 it has been amplified by a.) the fact that the company is keeping its cards very close to its chest concerning a lot of the details and b.) that it will be launched in the same year as its direct rivals, i.e. the Ferrari “F150” and the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Now the Woking outfit has issued a press release informing us that the development of the P1 continues “ahead of its next global appearance”. Well, that will probably be Geneva in March then.

McLaren Updates MP4-12C GT3 Racer for 2013, WRC Champion Loeb to Compete in FIA GT

Non-motorsport fans may overlook racing versions of sports cars but the fact is, they make for a very lucrative business for automakers that, naturally, are very happy to put some effort into them.

Like Ferrari, Porsche and Mercedes-Benz, McLaren has developed a GT3-spec variant of its MP4-12C supercar that was supplied to 13 customer teams last year. In its inaugural season, the 12C GT3 took part in 98 separate events, mostly in Europe, and claimed 19 victories and a further 19 podium finishes.

McLaren Shows P1 at NYC Private Event, Says Only the Front Bumper and Rear Vents will Change

When McLaren presented the P1 Concept at this year's Paris Motor Show, it told us that its new supercar was 97 percent production ready in terms of its exterior design.

If you have been wondering what kind of changes that 3 percent represents, then you'll be happy to know that the British carmaker answered that question during a private event in New York City that was attended and filmed by Jason Thorgalsen.

Scoop: McLaren P1 Filmed Testing on the Road, First Glimpse at the Cabin

Sure, most of you have seen the McLaren P1 concept that was revealed at the recent Paris Motor Show and have checked out spy shots of taped-up pre-production prototypes, but how about watching it drive on the road?

Well, if you haven't, here's your chance to do so thanks to a new spy video, courtesy of French publication L'Automobile.

We've already established the fact that the exterior appearance of McLaren's P1 hypercar won't change much from study, but this video also affords us our first look at the interior that was hidden behind blacked out windows on the concept.
