Toyota Asks If You Can Guess What This Special Goodwood Festival Debut Is [Updated]

With this year's edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed (FoS) in England just around the corner (July 11-14), automakers are getting ready to share their four-wheel goods, some of which are new, some of which are old.

Looking to add a playful note in its presentation, Toyota released a picture of a covered car on its Facebook page with the following message:

Super-Lightweight Toyota 86 TRD Griffon Concept Flies to Goodwood Festival

Toyota's arsenal of cars at this year's edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed that takes place in Britain from July 11 to 14 will include the GT 86 TRD Griffon Project. If the name rings a bell it's because the Japanese carmaker had originally presented the concept at the Tokyo Auto Salon in January this year.

Toyota Racing Developments (TRD) developed the 86 Griffon as a track racer keeping the road-going model's 200-horsepower boxer engine intact, but upgrading the rest of the components and more importantly, shaving 500 pounds (226.7 kg) to bring the curb weight down to just 2,310 pounds (1,048 kg).

Toyota Chairman Says BMW Joint Venture Coupe Should be Like the Supra

From the moment we learned about the Toyota and BMW joint venture for the development of a new coupe in the summer of 2012, the first thing that crossed our minds was a Supra replacement. We weren't the only ones to go there, as over the past year, we heard many voices supporting the same– even a BMW source told Autonews that the collaboration may result in the rebirth of the Toyota Supra.

Adding to these voices now is a high-ranking Toyota executive, and in particular, the brand's incoming chairman Takeshi Uchiyamada, who will soon replace Fujio Cho. Uchiyamada said he'd like the BMW co-developed sports car to be midsize vehicle "comparable" to the obsolete Supra, during an interview yesterday in Japan, according to Bloomberg News.

Toyota Designs Camatte57s Concept for Tokyo Toy Show 2013 [w/Video]

Toyota will display a sporty, open-top family-oriented concept in the Kids Life Zone at this week's International Tokyo Toy Show 2013. Why choose a toy show to display a new concept car? Well, the pictures will certainly explain this.

The Camatte57s is a study aimed at bringing parents and children close together as they work in collaboration on building their ideal car. Toyota says the vehicle “aims to convey the joy and dreams of motor vehicles to current and future drivers, by providing an opportunity for parents and children to together experience the fun of driving, car customization and car enthusiasm.”

New Photos of 2014 Toyota Corolla Sedan Leaked on the Web? [Updated]

Update: As pointed out by our readers, these two pictures of the 2014 Corolla aren't the real deal; they're renderings from Humster3d (see the second video after the jump)

While Toyota isn't hiding the fact that a new generation of the Corolla sedan is coming out this year having previewed the car through the Furia Concept at the Detroit Motor Show in January and even teased the production version via this picture last week, the company says it won't actually reveal the compact model until June 6.

As always, the interwebs have a different opinion, and besides these photos that were leaked online in February, we now have a new pair of images, purportedly of the production 2014 Corolla sedan, courtesy of Encontracarros.

Toyota Says its 2015 FCV-R Fuel-Cell Car will Cost Between $50,000 and $100,000

While we still have many years ahead of us for fuel-cell vehicles to become a practical and affordable alternative to gasoline- and diesel-powered models, automakers are edging closer and closer to that goal.

On Tuesday, during the Fortune Brainstorm Green conference in Laguna Niguel, California, Chris Hostetter, group vice president of strategic planning for Toyota USA, told Automotive News that the brand's production version of the 2011 FCV-R fuel-cell concept should cost between $50,000 and $100,000 when it goes on sale in the States in 2015.

New Toyota ME.WE Concept is What You Get When You Let an Architect Design a Car

Automotive designers and architects are two different breeds of artists, who seldom cross paths. For whatever reason, Toyota wanted to bring the two different worlds together and create a special concept named ME.WE., which is the outcome of collaboration between its ED2 European Design studio in Nice, France, and French architect Jean-Marie Massaud.

So what is the ME.WE Concept? Well, Toyota describes it as being a pick-up, convertible, off-roader and small city car in one, adding that, "It is a no-extras package, conceived as an 'anti-excess' vehicle. In short, the Toyota ME.WE represents the transition from the culture of 'more' to the culture of 'better'".

Toyota FT-HT Yuejia is a Six-Seater Hybrid Concept Designed for China

Toyota has no fewer than 52 new releases to show off at the 2013 Shanghai motor show, including many models that are already available elsewhere in the world. The most eye-catching of these premieres has to be the FT-HT Yuejia, which is a concept for a six-seater vehicle designed to appeal to young Chinese buyers.

First off, it is striking to look at, proof that they are trying to shake their image of making boring kitchen appliance cars – well, at least when it comes to concept studies.

Toyota Video Teases Tilting Three-Wheeler i-Road Concept

Japan's biggest carmaker, Toyota, is keen to capitalize on the ultra-compact city runabout niche, which is set to grow exponentially in the coming years, as more and more people decide to go green and go small, in the face of ever-increasing fuel prices.

One such proposal from Toyota is a new all-electric concept called the i-Road that will premiere at the Geneva auto show next week.

Watch the Toyota FT-86 Open on the Move, Plus Official Details and 30 Photos

Following last night's premature reveal, Toyota has officially presented its new GT86 / Scion FR-S-based FT-86 Open concept, just days before we get to see in the flesh at the 83rd edition of the Geneva Motor Show.

Besides a more comprehensive and higher-resolution image gallery, Toyota also published the first video of the car on the move and initial specifications.

It only takes a quick look at the pictures to see that the FT-86 Open is more of a pre-production model than a concept, something that even Toyota admits, adding that it created the car "to test the water for the possible introduction of a convertible version".

Aimed at the likes of the successful Mazda MX-5, the FT-86 Open replaces the GT86's (FR-S) fixed hard-top with a multi-layered fabric roof with a glass rear screen. Unlike the Mazda, however, the Toyota model has the same 2+2 seating format as the coupe, which can be a bonus feature for many buyers.

First Official Photos of New Toyota FT 86 Open Top Concept

Look out Mazda because Toyota is getting ready to step into your turf with an MX-5 challenging convertible version of its GT 86 or, as we know it in North America, the Scion FR-S.

Toyota has previously shown a rendering of the conceptual FT 86 Open Top model, while we also got a peek at the actual car through a not-so-well guarded facility in South Africa about two weeks ago, but now it's time to share an official photo gallery of the 2+2 seat model that is one step before production.

Spied: New Toyota GT 86 / Scion FR-S Roadster Caught with its Top Down!

These are the first real-life pictures of the Toyota GT 86 / 86 Convertible, which was nabbed by Carmag reader and FT86 forum member Allan Findlay behind closed gates in Cape Town, South Africa.

Last month, Toyota told us that it plans to bring a thinly disguised concept version of the car named the 'GT86 Open Top' to next month's Geneva Motor Show to "gauge the public reaction to the idea of an open-top GT86", adding that "testing of a prototype version of the car is already underway".

NAIAS: Corolla Furia Concept Hints at Toyota’s New U.S-Bound Compact Sedan [Updated]

There used to be a time when journalists and the public alike were speculating whether concepts launched at auto shows might indeed make it to production and, if yes, in what form.

Not anymore: automakers are increasingly spilling the beans out themselves. Just like Honda made no secret that its Urban SUV Concept is a small crossover in disguise, even providing a launch date, Toyota revealed what its Furia Concept, which has been teasing before, is all about.

DAMD's Lexus LFT-86 is a Toyota 86 / Scion FR-S in Disguise [w/Video]

Even if you wanted to, you can't ignore all the customized and conceptual Toyota 86 sport coupes that are on display at this week's Tokyo Auto Salon in Japan.

We don't know whether Toyota should worry, but a great number of tuners focused their efforts on altering the appearance of the rear-wheel drive coupe that's marketed as the Toyota GT 86 outside of Japan and the Scion FR-S in North America.

While the students at NATS gave the 86 an Audi R8-esque look and Toyota's own Original Accessory sub-brand a classic feel, the always-imaginative crew from Japan's DAMD decided to turn their 86 into a mini-me Lexus LFA calling it the LFT-86.

The cosmetic transformation begins with a new front end that keeps the 86's headlamps but adds a newly styled bumper that mimics the LFA with triangular-shaped side vents, and continues with the side skirts.
