Help This Saab Owner Choose Between a Used Honda S2000 and a New Subaru BRZ

Why would a Saab enthusiast want to give up his rare 2002 Saab 9-3 Viggen and consider going Japanese? Well, let’s just say he wants to try something different. As someone who has owned several Saabs in his life, his wish is understandable.

Featured in the “BRZorthat” segment of the After/Drive show on the Drive online video network, the discussion between Mr. Saab and the host of the show, Mike Spinelli, gets pretty interesting when the guest explains why he would consider a used Honda S2000 as a replacement for his Saab.

450HP Tuned Subaru BRZ Might be the One You’ve Been Waiting For

The Subaru BRZ is one of the hottest sports cars on the market right now, blending an excellent chassis with a fairly stylish body style and affordable pricing. It has really stolen the sports car show ever since it was launched, along with its two other Toyota- and Scion-badged sister models. The only complaint people are having with the coupe up until this point is that its straight line performance is poorer than that of a well-sorted hot hatch. Read more »

Composting Methane Fusion-Drive Subaru BRZ Takes Us Back to a Stinky Future [w/Video]

If you thought that what the Subaru BRZ needed was a complicated and seemingly unfeasible hybrid system, then this article will be right up your alley. This BRZ from 'Planet Subaru', a Hannover Massachusetts, dealerships, has been fitted with a composting Methane Fusion Drive hybrid system, which as its name suggests is a very ingenious way to power a sports car – it's exactly what Dr. Emmett Brown from the Back to the Future trilogy would have done, had he been given a BRZ to fettle with. Subaru BRZ AWD Twin-Turbo Convertible Diesel Hybrid Coming on…April 1st

While out for…fishing, Subaru of America announced that it will launch a Convertible version of its BRZ sports car with AWD and a twin-turbocharged diesel engine.

“Having just launched the current model to widespread critical acclaim, we are tired of fighting off the constant speculation about what’s “next” and so we are just giving in and delivering all the speculation in one vehicle,” said the company in a statement released on April 1st.

We Ask Toyota and Subaru about James May's Claim that Toyota Gets 90% of GT 86/FR-S/BRZ Production

After testing the Toyota GT 86 and declaring it an absolute blast and very easy to drift even when reading a book (!), then handing it over to The Stig for the customary lap, Jeremy Clarkson sat down with the other two Top Gear hosts and discussed the news.

This is usually the less exciting part of BBC’s show. A CarScoop reader, who goes by the nickname “Uglydawg69”, though, tipped us off that in that episode during the three lads’ bantering, James May said Toyota and Subaru have agreed that the former will sell 90 out of every 100 coupes the latter manufactures at its Ota plant located 50 miles northwest of Tokyo.

BRZ/86/FR-S Coupes Miss on New Forester’s 250HP Turbo'd Boxer Because it Won’t Fit!

Ever since the production version of the FT-Concept(s) came out in the form of the Toyota 86/GT 86, Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S trio of practically identical rear-wheel drive coupes, everyone has been asking whether a more powerful version, most likely with forced induction, was on the cards.

It made sense as Subaru, which has actually designed the all-new 2.0-liter normally aspirated flat-four with Toyota adding its unique fuel injection system, has a long history of using turbocharged boxer engines in its models.

The company’s engine design department project team manager, Nobuo Kyotoku, was asked the exact same question by WardsAuto, which named the 2.0L FA (the motor’s designation) one of its 10 best engines of the year. The answer was “yes” and “no”…

European Car of the Year Short List with the 8 Finalists Revealed, Think You Can Pick the Winner?

After announcing the 34 nominees (38 if you include re-badged models like the Seat Toledo and Subaru BRZ) in late September, the organizing committee of the European edition of the Car of the Year award has now released the short list with the 8 finalists.

Normally, the short list includes 7 models, but due to the fact that two cars tied in the same position during the voting process, the committee increased the number of finalists to eight, just as it did in the 2007 edition of the award.

Subaru Reportedly Developing Turbocharged Engine for BRZ Coupe with up to 280 Horses

We have heard it before, and we will probably hear it again; Subaru is working on a turbocharged version of its BRZ rear-wheel drive sports coupe.

This time, the news comes courtesy of Automotive News, which cites unnamed sources, presumably from within the Japanese company, who claim that Subaru's engineers have started work on a turbocharged direct-injection version of its horizontally opposed, 2.0-liter four-cylinder unit.

Subaru BRZ Shows up at Sydney Motor Show Wearing a Concept STI Sport Kit

The rear-wheel drive coupe features a new range of Subaru Tecnica International (STI) performance parts and accessories, including spoilers and suspension upgrades, and which the company says will soon be available for order.

Pagani Zonda and Subaru BRZ to Star in "Fast and Furious 6", New Videos from Film Sets

Not that we weren't expecting at least one of the sports coupe models that came out of the relationship between the Toyota group and Subaru to feature in the sixth chapter of the Fast and Furious franchise, but U.S. magazine Motor Trend says it has learned that the car will be the Subaru BRZ.

In particular, the publication says Subaru has reportedly supplied as many as five BRZ's for the "Fast and the Furious 6" film that is scheduled for release on May 24, 2013.

In related news, we looked around and found a handful of videos from the London filming set as well as a scene of a bridge being blown up while the "Fast 6" crew was shooting in Tenerife, the largest and most populous of the seven Canary Islands.

There's also a picture of a full carbon fiber-bodied Pagani Zonda that was released by the Fast and Furious crew.

Watch a 2013 Subaru BRZ Driver Hit 151mph - 243km/h

The same owner of the stick shift 2013 Subaru BRZ Limited who was able to take the Japanese firm's boxer-powered sports coupe up to a top speed of 147mph or 237km/h (on the speedometer) after completing the 1,000 mile (1,600 km) break-in period back in July is back with another video.

The man who runs the 'Jason Thorgalsen Photography' (JTP) channel on YouTube took the BRZ for another test run and managed to improve his max speed by 4mph or 6km/h to 151mph or 243km/h, again on the speedometer, though he does mention in the video that he "GPS Verified" the speed at 152mph or 244.6 km/h.

BRZ and FR-S Owners Complain About Rough Idle and Stalling Engines, Some Don't Like Remedy

The sports coupe jointly developed by Toyota and Subaru that entered production as the Subaru BRZ, Scion FR-S and Toyota GT86 was one of the most awaited cars of the year, since it rekindled the fun to drive and relatively modestly priced niche.

Despite being a long time in the making, being teased by a series of concepts, the final product received positive reviews. The three models are nearly identical, featuring a 2.0-liter flat-four engine with both direct and indirect injection driving the rear-wheels via a six-speed manual or auto gearbox and a Torsen limited-slip differential.

The problem is that Subaru and Scion customers who rushed in to buy the first batch of cars are now complaining about rough idle and stalling issues.

Turbocharged Subaru BRZ with 440WHP Runs Quarter Mile in 11.3 Seconds

While no doubt fun to drive, some consumers and reviewers have been complaining about the lack of power in the Subaru BRZ and its boxer-engine twins, the Toyota GT 86 and Scion FR-S.

Nothing the aftermarket industry can't solve, as proved by this Subaru BRZ tuned by Accelerated Performance.

Thanks to a series of mechanical upgrades highlighted by the addition of a turbocharger system, reprogrammed ECU and a catless exhaust, the BRZ's 2.0-liter flat-four is said to produce a massive 440-horses…at the rear wheels.

First Turbocharged Subaru BRZ with 278 WHP hits the Dyno

According to sources, this is the first Subaru BRZ (seen on film at least) to receive the turbo treatment.

Ohio based Accelerated Performance owner John Visconti recently headed over to the North American Subaru Impreza Owners Club (NASIOC) to reveal what his company had accomplished with their new turbocharged BRZ by posting the results of the dyno test.

Subaru to Debut BRZ Zero Car at 2012 Japan Rally Championship

Before you get too excited about the race-livered BRZ pictured above, let us tell you that "Zero Car" or "Opening Car" is a term used to describe a vehicle that opens the road for the competition models in rallies, meaning this is not a production edition.

Subaru will debut its new Zero Car, which is based on the regular BRZ sports coupe, at this weekend's 2012 Japan Rally Championship (July 28-29),

Watch a Stock Subaru BRZ and a Rally-Prepped BRZ on the Isle of Man

Situated in the heart of the British Isles between Great Britain and Ireland, the Isle of Man became world famous for the International Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy) motorcycle racing event.

It is here that Automobile Magazine's Jason Cammisa took the Subaru BRZ rear-wheel drive sports coupe for a spin in the latest episode of The Downshift.

The real good stuff, however, comes when Cammisa jumps into the passenger seat of a rally prepped BRZ driven by none other than British Rally Champion Mark Higgins, who happens to hold the world record

2013 Subaru BRZ Tops Out at 147mph – 237km/h on the…Autobahn

It may not set the road on fire by today's standards but the 197hp (200PS) BRZ remains a fast rear-wheel drive sports car with Subaru officially quoting a 0-62mph (100km/h) sprint time of 7.6 seconds and a maximum speed of 143mph (230 km/h).

Unsurprisingly, most people who buy a sports car like the BRZ have a little devil hanging over their shoulder shouting "test it" "test it", which is exactly what YouTube user "Speedracer38" from Jason Thorgalsen Photography did once he completed the recommended 1,000 mile break-in time.

Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S Recalled…Sort of…to Replace Owner’s Manual

The Subaru BRZ and Scion FR-S have just touched down in the States but they have already received their first recall.

However, buyers do not need to fret since the recall does not affect the cars themselves but their owner's manuals, which evidently, are the same.
