Lexus Bids…Another Farewell to the LFA with Video Tribute

The Lexus LFA, which went out of production in December of last year, will undoubtedly be remembered as a great car. It was partly down to the wacky angular styling, partly down to the unique scream of its V10 engine and finally to the story of how it came to be and the sheer level of engineering which went into its development. Fast & Furious Star Paul Walker Drives Lexus LFA on Track

Actor Paul Walker’s name will forever be inextricably linked to the Fast and Furious franchise, through which literally everybody has heard of him, associating him with reckless driving through traffic and highly-tuned Japanese cars. This was always his F&F character’s differing opinion to that of Dom, played by Vin Diesel – the latter preferring classic American muscle.

However, some Japanese cars don’t need any more extra work to make them exciting, or special, and one of these cars is the Lexus LFA. Walker was recently asked to participate in a special event celebrating the accumulation of 30,000 miles on the odometers of two LFAs, in which he and a professional driver hoon the two cars around a (very dusty) track.

Lexus to Make First Official Appearance at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Lexus is trying to steer away from its established image of just making comfortable, reliable luxury cars, and inject a bit of zest into the brand, because sporty sells nowadays.

Just take one good look at the revised LS, especially in F-Sport trim – it is considerably more aggressive than anything they've previously done, especially on a big heavy barge like their flagship. This is also evident in the new GS and IS, which again, with the mean F-Sport bits specified, look more aggressive.

This Man Took Delivery of the Last U.S.-Bound Lexus LFA

Production of the Lexus LFA ended on December 14, 2012, with the roll out of the 500th and last example of the luxury firm's first-ever supercar model at its dedicated Motomachi production facility in Japan.

However, Lexus is still delivering LFAs to their respective owners with No.499 being the last car destined for the United States.

Lexus LFA Loses to Ferrari 458 Italia in C&D's 2013 Lightning Lap Test

It's a fact that Nürburgring lap times have become something of a standard when it comes to comparing sports cars’ performance. Car & Driver magazine decided that it was impractical to conduct its annual Lightning Lap event in Germany as they had 20 cars to test, so its editors chose the Virginia International Raceway (VIR) as the U.S. equivalent of the ‘Ring.

While the 4.1-mile long track is one-third of the Nordschleife, it features more than 30 turns and elevation changes and, according to C&D, it makes for a demanding venue in which to test each car to its limits.

Listen Up and Vote: New SRT Viper vs Lamborghini Aventador vs Lexus LFA

Three very different schools of automotive thought came together at a Cars and Coffee meeting in Irvine, California, a couple of weeks ago, for a mechanical symphony comprised of 32 cylinders, 19.7-liters and a whopping 1,884-horses.

Thankfully, the revving competition between the Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, 2013 SRT Viper and the Lexus LFA was captured on film by several visitors for our enjoyment.

Lexus Bids Farewell to the LFA as the Last Example Rolls Off the Production Line

A little over three years after Lexus revealed its first ever supercar to the world and two years since it began deliveries on December 15, 2010, the Japanese automaker has produced the 500th and last example of its V10-powered LFA.

The final model was a white 562bhp LFA with the Nürburgring Package and it left the LFA works, which is Lexus' dedicated production facility at the Motomachi Plant, Aichi Prefecture in Japan, on Friday, December 14.

LFA Turned Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness; Lexus Asks if You Like the Color

True, we have seen sports and luxury cars go pink before, sometimes for noble purposes and other times for vanity, but a limited run supercar in this flushing shade is bound to capture our attention, which is what its inventors intended in the first place. Read more »

Scoop: Lexus Caught Testing Third Special LF-A Called the AD-X with a Very Porsche Like Livery

We have to admit, Lexus has us somewhat baffled lately with its special LF-A prototypes roaming the famed Nürburgring test track.

As you may very well remember, over the past few months, our spies have nabbed two unique test cars, including a teal-colored model with black stripes and the "AD-A" inscription on the front fenders, followed by a green LFA, again with black stripes but with an "AD-B" label right behind the front wheel arches.

Now, we have a third (!) prototype, this one painted in a white color scheme with red accents on the body and wheels that brings to mind the Porsche 911 Carrera RS. It's named the LFA AD-X.

Along Came a Spyder: Jay Leno Gets to Drive the World’s Only Open-Top Lexus LFA

We probably don’t need to tell you that comedian/TV host Jay Leno is a car nut who has his own show called, Jay Leno’s Garage; but we will, just for the sake of those few who may not have never heard of him.

Being a triple-A-list celebrity with his own series means that Leno is frequently invited by carmakers to drive their latest and greatest vehicles. Occasionally, he may even go ahead and buy one of them to add to his collection.

This time, the 62-year old TV host was invited to Toyota City in Japan to witness firsthand the construction methods of the Lexus LFA.

Lexus LFA Meets Up with LF-LC Concept Study for a Photo Shoot

Two of the most talked about Lexus-branded sports cars of recent years came together for a unique photo shoot that was also captured on film by the Japanese carmaker for our enjoyment.

The LFA, Lexus' first ever attempt in the supercar segment, boasts a high-revving 4.8-liter V10 engine mounted up front that generates 552bhp in standard trim and 562-horses for the Nürburgring Edition model. Lexus built only 500 examples of the LFA.

Lexus Unleashes the LFA Offering One Fan the Opportunity to Drive the V10 Sportscar on the Track

A few days back, Lexus had teased us with a video entitled "Unleash the LFA," a preview to which some (including myself) believed to be a new special edition track spec LFA after some recent aqua colored LFA spy photos had emerged the weeks before.

Sadly, we were all wrong. What Lexus is really doing is, well taking a note from Audi's #WantAnR8 Twitter campaign.

Lamborghini Aventador LP 700-4 and Lexus LFA Sound Battle [w/Poll]

One of the things all gearheads love about exotic supercars is the sounds produced by their high-horsepower engines.

Of course, as with design, when it comes to engine sounds, everybody has different preferences, which makes this competition between a Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4 and a Lexus LFA that met up under a tent at the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix 2012 event this month all the more interesting.

Motor Trend Pits Lexus LFA Against Acura / Honda NSX in Japanese Supercar Duel

The most famous and for many years, the only Japanese supercar, the Honda NSX that was sold under the Acura moniker in North America, is a very important vehicle not only for its maker, but for the entire industry as well.

The incredible NSX redefined the supercar genre proving that fast and sexy doesn't have to mean making huge sacrifices in ergonomics, quality or everyday drivability.

Lexus to "Unleash the LFA" on August 1, Any Idea What it Could Be?

A new video teaser from Lexus promises that the Japanese company will "Unleash the LFA" next week on August 1.

If a Lexus official hadn't denied the rumors about the AD-A and AD-B prototypes seen racing around the 'Ring earlier this month, we would have been inclined to believe that the automaker may be preparing to show the special edition models.

World's First Chrome Wrapped Lexus LFA Arrives in Australia

An Australian buyer will soon take delivery of what is billed by Lexus itself as the first chrome-wrapped LFA in the world (if any you have proof of another example, tell us about it in the comments section or send us an email).

The Lexus LFA No304 is one of only 10 examples of the V10-powered supercar destined for the Land Down Under, from a total worldwide production run of 500 vehicles.

Lexus Says LFA AD-A and AD-B are One-Off Prototypes and Not Special Editions

During the past couple of weeks, spy photographers and eagle-eyed individuals alike spotted two similar but visibly different Lexus LFA prototypes with the AD-A and AD-B monikers respectively undergoing tests in and around the Nürburgring in Germany.

Their bespoke styling parts and colors suggested that Lexus may be readying a handful of special edition versions of the LFA to mark the end of the supercar's production.

Well, as it turns out, that's not the case. In an email to the Lexus Enthusiast website, Etienne Plas, senior manager of product communications for Lexus Europe, said that the company does not plan to present any kind of special edition version of the LFA.

After the Lexus LFA AD-A, Another Prototype with an AD-B Moniker Filmed Around the 'Ring

A second prototype model of the Lexus LFA with some visible differences from the teal-colored LFA AD-A model that we scooped last week was captured on film by the crew from YouTube channel TouriClips right outside the Nürburgring track.

While featuring a similar, if not identical, aero package with the LFA AD-A, this particular prototype was finished in a green hue and sported 'AD-B' markings on either side.

Scoop: Is Lexus Preparing One Final Special Edition Version of its LFA? [w/Video]

A teal colored Lexus LFA prototype with some interesting details captured the attention of our spy photographers at the Nürburgring Nordschleife.

For starters, this particular LFA model is equipped with the Nürburgring Edition package that includes a front spoiler made from CFRP (carbon fibre reinforced plastic), a fixed rear-wing, fin-type side spoilers, a canard fin plus exclusive mesh-type wheels.

If you look a little bit closer, however, you will notice several differences such as the carbon fiber dressed hood with the additional air-vents and roof, the larger and more rounded rear wing and the black stripes with the "AD-A" nameplate just above the side sills.

Bringing together some of the most exclusive and powerful supercars in the world is a challenge well worth the effort.

In this exotic matchup, Automobile magazine assembled four of the fastest carbon-fiber-bodied rides in America to find out which is the king of the quarter mile on an airport runway.

The challengers are the almighty, 16-cylinder Bugatti Veyron 16.4 Grand Sport, the new V12-powered Lamborghini Aventador LP700-4, the Lexus LFA V10, and the eight-cylinder McLaren MP4-12C.

To see how the race went down, head past the break and watch the video.
