Mercedes-Benz's Upcoming Porsche 911 Challenger, the SLC AMG, Rendered

With a starting MSRP of a shade under $200,000 in the U.S. and €190,000 in its home market of Germany, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG in Coupe and Roadster body styles is positioned in the mid-price range of exotic sports cars.

Now, being that Germany's finest car manufacturers are on a mission to cover every single niche, no matter how big or small it is, one shouldn't be the least surprised to learn that Merc's AMG division has set its eyes on the entry-level premium sports car category with a new model priced at around (possibly even under) the $100,000 mark.

Mercedes SLS AMG Black Series Smokes SRT Viper in MT Test, But Also Costs 3X As Much…

The latest comparison test put together by Motor Trend, between the Mercedes-BenzSLS AMG Black Series (priced from $275,000) and the much cheaper at $102,000 SRT Viper, perfectly illustrates that smooth is much faster around a racetrack.

You see, while the American sports car may be lighter and more powerful, it can’t match the German car’s planted chassis feel, smoothness and virtually-instant gear changes. This makes sense on the road, because you can drive quickly, consistently and safely in the SLS, whereas the Viper just looks a lot more tail-happy and violent.

Weistec's Smoking Hot 850HP Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG, Featured on Tuned

Jeremy Clarkson, in his infinite wisdom, did make one crucial discovery for mankind. He found the easy way for smokers to quench their craving for nicotine – it was called smoking…a rear-driven car’s back wheels for amusement.

Furthermore, since Mr. Clarkson likes fast Mercedes-Benz cars, we thought it was only natural that we bring him up when talking about the Weistech E63 AMG, a car he would most definitely get.

Mercedes A45 AMG Easily Beats BMW M135i and VW Golf GTI in Comparison Test

The following comparison test from Autocar couldn’t bring together more different types of hot-hatches. For starters, there’s the all-wheel-drive Mercedes A45 AMG powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter 4-cylinder unit developing 355 horsepower (360PS). Then there’s the rear-wheel-drive BMW M135i powered by a turbocharged 3.0-liter straight-six engine that churns out 316 hp (320PS). Finally, the most curious choice of the test is the VW Golf GTI Performance, a front-wheel-drive 227hp (230PS) car powered by a 2.0-liter turbocharged engine. Read more »

Mercedes Boss Says S-Class Pullman will Rival Rolls-Royce Phantom

With the demise of the Maybach brand, Daimler has been left without a player in the top segment of luxury cars, where the Rolls-Royce Phantom is now virtually on its own. One could say the Bentley Mulsanne is up there too, but I for one (and RR too), see it more as competitor for the Ghost than the monumental Phantom.

However, it looks like the Phantom will soon have competition, since the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class will spawn a Pullman model that will act as the flagship of the brand. In an interview with Autocar, Daimler CEO Dieter Zetsche has confirmed that the S-Class Pullman will be aimed at the Rolls-Royce Phantom.

Spy Shots: Mercedes-Benz Plotting a Facelift for SLS AMG GT

The SLS AMG is one of those classy and dare we say, sexy sports cars that never get old in terms of looks no matter how many years pass by. Nevertheless, since we live in an age of constant product introductions and improvements, Mercedes is going with the flow preparing what appears to be the SLS AMG GT's first true cosmetic refresh. No Watermarks: Mercedes Scoops Its Own Shots of New AMG SLC that will Fight the Porsche 911

Before we tell you about these shots of the new Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG, allow us to start on a different note (feel free to jump to the fourth paragraph if you don't want to read our rant). We often see automakers having special and sometimes even questionable relationships with certain media by providing them with early information and material.

This brings us to these photos of a camouflaged Mercedes-Benz SLC AMG that were posted on certain magazine websites, some of which, like the UK's Autocar and Car, placed their watermarks on, evidently to make us believe they are spy shots, when in fact, they were handed over to them by none other than Mercedes itself…

Well, when there's a will, there's a way, right? Our spy photo associates at CarPix may have not scooped the SLC AMG, but they were able to get their hands on the unofficially-official pictures in all their high-resolution glory and pass them on to us so we can share them without any watermarks below - if you're in the same line of work or hobby as us, use them as you please…

Scoop: A Bigger and More Mature Mercedes-Benz C-Class Is On Its Way

The new CLA compact sports saloon (or four-door coupe in marketing talk) is a game changer not only for the segment, but also for one of Mercedes' most popular models, as it creeps up very closely to the current C-Class in terms of pricing and dimensions.

Its presence in Benz's range means that the C-Class' successor will try to distance itself from the CLA through a longer and roomier body, a more mature design that draws inspiration from the larger S-Class, higher quality materials and a more refined ride, along, of course, with the rear-wheel drive setup (though, all-wheel drive will be optional).

Sutcliffe Tests Mercedes-Benz CLA45 AMG, Finds it Competent but Not Sharp Enough

After releasing their test of the A45 AMG a few days ago, Autocar has now also tried out the sedan variant built on the same front axle-biased all-wheel drive platform, and powered by the same turbocharged engine.

Mercedes-Benz claims identical acceleration and top speed figures, even though the CLA 45 AMG is some 30 kg (66 lbs) heavier than the A-Class, but reviewer Steve Sutcliffe says the sedan does not feel as edgy to drive as the hatch, getting a more dulled down throttle response.

Report: Next-Generation Mercedes C-Class to Get Renault’s 130PS 1.6-liter Diesel Engine

It looks like the Mercedes-Benz A-Class and Citan won't be the only models from Stuttgart to get a diesel engine from Renault. A new reports says Renault’s new 130PS 1.6-liter four-cylinder common rail turbodiesel engine will find its way into the next Mercedes-Benz C-Class, following the introduction of the 1.5 dCi on the A180 CDI BlueEfficiency and Citan small van. Sutcliffe Passes Judgment on the New 355HP Mercedes-Benz A45 AMG

The A45 AMG is Mercedes’ smack in the face of the established hot hatch manufacturers, with a car that looks different, apparently drives quite well and is powered by the world’s most powerful production two-liter turbocharged engine. It’s so impressive, that it’s actually faster in a straight line than the bigger, more powerful and far, far more expensive CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake. Read more »

StudioTorino Envision Fabulous Looking Mercedes-Benz SL Shooting Brake [w/Video]

What would a shooting brake-style coupe version of the Mercedes-Benz SL roadster look like? This is a question you no longer need to look for an answer, as Italian design house, Studiotorino, developed a project called "Coupetorino 2013", which is a concept for an SL Shooting Brake model.

A non-profit academic project at Istituto di Arte Applicata e Design (IAAD), the Coupetorino 2013 began to take shape in 2012 when six design students (Bruno Arena, Michele Bavaro, Riccardo Luigi Cascone, Stefano Manini, Dario Pellegrino and Cristiano Zanot) set out to transform the Mercedes SL into an exclusive coupe with the support of Steffen Koehl from Global Advance Design Mercedes-Benz.

New Mercedes S63 AMG "Accidentally Revealed" While Rolling Off the Production Line?

Since the all-new Mercedes-Benz S-Class has been revealed, and we’ve seen quite a few photos of it, it’s really not hard to imagine what the hot S63 model will look like, especially if we take a peek at what goes into transforming an E-Class into an E63 – different sportier bumpers, slight body kit, new rims and AMG badging both inside and out, all complimented by special color finishes.

However, we need not wonder any more, as Mercedes has accidentally revealed the S63, at the Sindelfingen factory where it is built, through a video found by Autoforum. The Czechs argue that it wasn’t really accidental, and that we were meant to see this – we agree, though we cannot ever be certain of such matters.

What if the New Mercedes-Benz CLA was a Proper Coupe?

There have been many heated discussions over the past few years about whether sedan models with low rooflines (sometimes lacking door-window frames) should be called four-door coupes and if the term itself is contradictory, but at the end of the day, this is how we have come to know and call cars like the Volkswagen CC, the Mercedes-Benz CLS, and more recently, the CLA.

We're not going to get into that discussion again, though, you're more than free to do so if you wish in the comments, but we will share this rendering of a proper Mercedes-Benz CLA Coupe made by the creative minds at Hungary's X-Tomi Design.

Mercedes A45 AMG Beats CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake in Quarter-Mile Race!

Yes, that’s right, the little “hot hatch” from Mercedes-Benz, the A45 AMG has just been put up against the much bigger, more expensive and more powerful CLS63 AMG Shooting Brake and it beat it! AutoExpress discovered that the smaller and cheaper car was measurably faster over the standard quarter mile, in a result which really surprised us as well. Read more »
