Opel Reportedly Bringing RWD Monza Coupe Concept to Frankfurt, May Preview Buick Model

Close to two decades after the demise of the Calibra, Opel (and consequently its British Vauxhall arm) will test the public’s reaction at the Frankfurt motor show in September with the Monza study, a coupe that may preview a future Audi A5 and BMW 4-Series rival.

According to a report from Auto Bild, the Opel Monza study will feature a sharp design and, surprisingly, a rear-wheel drive setup. The name Monza was also used by a RWD Opel coupe in the 1970s and 1980s.

The political unrest in Egypt is taking its toll on automakers, with Toyota having previously temporarily shut down its subsidiary in the African country because of the demonstrations against (the now former) President Mohamed Morsi.

The Japanese carmaker said that operations restarted and that none of its dealerships was damaged. A Toyota spokesman told Autonews Europe that sales were not affected and that he was not aware of any effects on Toyota’s CKD assembly plant in Cairo.

Jay Leno Has Fun In New and Old Cop Cars

Little boys’ fascination with police cars does make genuine sense, but not necessarily because they believe in upholding the law or anything noble like that. I think it has to do with all of the gadgets they get, and their cool look all painted up with their specific liveries, as well as the fact that they can be driven quickly legally. Read more »

Darn…GM Reportedly Freezes Development of Flagship Cadillac Sedan

Back in 2011, Cadillac presented the very well received (we liked it as well) Ciel concept at the Concours d'Elegance classic-car show in Pebble Beach, California, with its designers saying that the open-top study was hinting at styling elements of a future large Cadillac sedan.

It was not the first time Cadillac was testing the public’s reaction about a flagship model, as in 2003 the V16-powered Cadillac Sixteen wowed fans and journalists alike.

Report Suggests Peugeot Family May Grant Complete Control Over to GM

PSA Peugeot Citroen is the modern development of the coffee mill company founded by the Peugeot family in 1810. In fact, the same family still holds a 24.4 percent stake in the company as well as 38.1 percent of the voting rights – they still kind of run the automaker.

However, that may soon change, as according to a Reuter's report, unnamed internal sources apparently suggested, “the Peugeot family has now accepted that they’ll lose control, so this is no longer an issue.”

Lower Wages and Boost in Productivity are what GM Requires to Keep Holden Going in Australia

The Australian automotive manufacturing industry has been hit hard with Ford’s announcement that it is dropping manufacturing the country, and closing down its two plants in 2016. Now fears have risen that GM may do the same as well, taking Holden with it.

Apparently, the cost of manufacturing cars in Australia is simply too high, due to a combination of factors including a strengthening of the local currency, high wages and their geographic position that can make sourcing parts more difficult. In fact, GM says it spends AU$3,750 ($3,548/€2,686) more for every car they make in the country, most of it being accounted for by the workers’ pay.

GM Says Cruze Diesel’s Overboost Feature Puts It on Par with Camaro Z28...from 1972

The 2014 Chevrolet Cruze Clean Turbo Diesel uses a turbocharging feature called “overboost” which shortly lifts torque for better acceleration. The turbocharged 2.0-liter engine delivers 151 horsepower and 264 lb-ft of torque (358 Nm), but overboost can increase peak torque to 280 lb-ft (380 Nm) for about 10 seconds of stronger acceleration. GM compares it with the equivalent torque delivered by the 1972 Camaro Z28’s heavier 5.7-liter V8. Read more »

New 2014 Cadillac CTS Priced from $46,025 or $7,000 More than Outgoing Model
