Reckless Subaru Boy Racer Learns the Hard Way that Public Roads are Not Racetracks [Updated]

Unfortunately, for regular drivers minding their own business, sometimes they share the road with so-called boy-racers who mistake public streets for Need for Speed video game stages. Considering that many of these boy racers drive powerful cars, like the person in the following video, the outcome of their “adventures” is far too often a tragic one. Read more »

Watch the 2015 Subaru WRX Prototype Run In and Out of the Nürburgring

We know what your first question will be about the spy video and these latest shots of the 2015 Subaru WRX prototype, but unfortunately, we can't give you an answer yet if this is the wishy-washy (read complete letdown), production version of the dramatic WRX Concept, a WRX iteration of the current Impreza to be offered before or alongside the aforementioned WRX, or an early test mule. Bring it On: Subaru WRX Concept Premieres at the New York Auto Show [w/Video]

Subaru is finally contemplating what every sensible gearhead has been telling both Subaru and Mitsubishi to do with their excellent Impreza WRX / STI and Lancer Evolution models, respectively, for decades now: keep their dynamic characteristics and dress them in a unique body that has nothing in common with their mainstream models.

While Mitsubishi is still thinking what to do with the EVO series in general, Subaru is showing us what it has in store for us with the next generation WRX, and its more powerful STi sibling, with the world premiere of the all-new WRX Concept car at the New York International Auto Show.

The study adopts a body style that most carmakers like to call a "four-door coupe", adorned with all the aggressive details one would expect from a WRX model (with a hint of Lancer EVO, some might say) like the powerbulge on the hood, muscular wheel arches that make room for the 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40ZR20 Dunlop rubber and a prominent rear diffuser. Only now, all these elements look natural and not planted like on the Impreza models.

The study measures 178.0 inches (4,521mm) long, 74.4 inches (1,889mm) wide and 54.7 inches (1,389mm) tall, which makes it slightly shorter, lower and wider than the Impreza Mk4 sedan. Its wheelbase is also significantly longer at 108.7 inches (2,761mm) compared to the Impreza's at 104.1 inches (2,644mm).

Subaru WRX Concept: Are These Official Photos of the New York Auto Show Model?

Images of what is pledged to be Subaru's New York Auto Show-bound performance concept have just surfaced on the internet. The rear license plate on the car reads "Subaru WRX Concept", which is what we expected from the Japanese automaker when it first told us about its world premieres at the Big Apple.

At this time, we cannot independently confirm the claim that this is indeed that concept, but we will say that the close-up images look real.

Top Gear Special Explodes Number of Searches for Used Subaru WRX Wagons

The last two Top Gear episodes, which formed a two-part special, in which each of the presenters chose an estate model in order to search Africa for the real source of the mighty river Nile.

As usual, the cars they were constrained to drive were not the most suitable for the rutted and broken roads they would eventually have to negotiate. However, this time Richard actually made a great choice by bringing along a Subaru WRX wagon/estate, which was easily the driving force of the whole expedition.

Subaru Impreza WRX Performs an Amazing Overtake…by Mistake

Here's one of those incidents that no matter how many times you try to replicate it on purpose, we're pretty sure that the chances of repeating it are near to none.

We're going to take a wild guess and say that it happened either in Russia or one of the surrounding countries (if you know where it took place, then tell us in the comments).

Future Cars: Crystal Ball Gazing the New 2014 Subaru WRX

Ladies and Gentlemen, what you see here could potentially be the all new Subaru WRX, but before I elaborate, allow me to take you for a short trip back to the past: Cast your minds back to the early Nineties, when Will Smith's stardom flourished from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, and the Ford Taurus was actually America's bestselling car (…and what a distant achievement that was).

It was 1992 when Subaru revealed its newest compact car - the Impreza; a vehicle that I initially described as being a soulless rolling bar of soap. Its dull lines and horrid half-grill (Japanese market) conjured up thoughts that the designers had fallen asleep at a Vanilla Ice Cream conference.

Ford Focus ST vs. Subaru WRX for the Final ST Session Video

For the past five months or so, Ford has been steadily releasing web episodes of its ST Session series featuring the new 250-horsepower Focus ST hatch and a number of direct rivals like the VW Golf GTi and Honda Civic Si, while even placing it against the much more expensive and powerful BMW M3 Coupe.

The time has come for the fifth and last episode of the series, named "Control Battle", which sees the Focus ST in the hands of professional rally driver Chrissie Beavis challenging her colleague Matthew Johnson in a Subaru WRX.

Subaru WRX Driver Saves the Day in Japan After Hitting Black Ice

Black patches of ice on the road are a driver's worst enemy as there's really nothing you can do once it creeps under your tires. Not even ABS or an advanced four-wheel drive system can save you, though; these features will indeed help you lessen the risks of getting into deeper trouble than what you are already in.

A Japanese driver of what looks like a Subaru WRX/STi was confronted with a situation like this right after coming out of a curve on a mountain road, and to make matters worse, a small truck had just crashed into the side rails and was blocking the road in front.

Auto Express Pits BMW M135i Against Subaru WRX STi 320R

Once upon a time, not too long ago, buyers rarely cross shopped between Subarus and BMWs, but now, with the way that the Bavarian brand has expanded its range into most segments of the market, many of its cars directly challenge the Japanese brand's models in terms of specs and surprisingly, pricing as well.

A prime example is the newly launched in Europe BMW M135i hatchback, which with 316bhp (320PS) and 450Nm (332 lb-ft) from its turbocharged 3.0-liter straight, the option of either RWD or AWD configurations, and a UK starting price of £30,555 for the six-speed manual 3d and £31,970 for the 8-speed auto 3d model, matches the Subaru WRX STi.

The rear-wheel drive coupe features a new range of Subaru Tecnica International (STI) performance parts and accessories, including spoilers and suspension upgrades, and which the company says will soon be available for order.

Now that's What we Would Truly Call a Rally Jump

Who said that impressive rally scenes only take place in Europe? This insanely long jump was filmed during last weekend's 2012 Rally New York. Sitting in the front seats of the Subaru Impreza STI Rally car were driver Cyril Kearney and his co-driver Mark McAlister.

While the pair made the jump unscathed, unfortunately, they crashed their car on the next stage. You will find the video right past the break.

Subaru Impreza STI Rally Car Crashes at 225km/h but Crazy Leo Continues and Finishes Second!

After watching this video, you won't wonder why Leonid Urlichich's nickname is Crazy Leo.

At the first round of the 2012 Canadian Rally Championship at Perce-Neige, Urlichich was driving his Subaru Impreza STI flat out at 225km/h (140mph) on a snow-covered road when he gently pushed the brake pedal to slow down.

However, instead of decelerating the car started to drift and turned around hitting a tree (fortunately with the rear end) at high speed. Despite the tremendous impact, Crazy Leo continued and managed to finish in second place! Watch the two clips right below the jump.

Killing Machine: 1973 VW Beetle with a Subaru WRX STI 2.0-liter Turbo Engine

If you believe that even with its run-of-the-mill 44bhp 1.3-liter air-cooled engine, the 1970's Volkswagen Beetle is a tough car to handle on the road, then you can only imagine what it would be like to try and control a Bug fitted with the zappy 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine from a Subaru Impreza WRX STi…

To make matters worse, the German dealer who listed the converted Beetle STi on a Romanian car sales website called 'Webcar' doesn’t mention anything about suspension upgrades.
