MT Does Classic Test Between BMW 750Li and Jaguar XJL Supercharged

Those looking to buy a long wheelbase car will find that the Jaguar XJL bears little resemblance to what they normally get - the old XJ included.

When comparing it to a BMW 7-Series long wheelbase edition, a 750Li, the much more restrained German saloon is overshadowed by the very flamboyant Brit, both inside and out, as well as when it comes to the overall driving and ownership experience, as MotorTrend found out recently when pitting the two cars against one another

BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 Coupe Filmed at Concorso d’Eleganza

BMW’s main exhibit at this year’s Concorso d’Eleganza was a large luxury coupe concept developed together with one of Italy’s finest design houses and coachbuilders, Pininfarina.

You’ve probably read all about the BMW Pininfarina Gran Lusso V12 Coupe and seen the official video, but it’s one thing to see the car in the studio and another in a real environment.

Audi Responds to Report About Tesla Model S Beating its A8's Sales [Updated]

Tesla can add another star to its belt of pride after Audi of America came out with a rather lame press statement concerning a report from CNN Money, which said Tesla sold more Model S sedans in U.S. during the first quarter of the year (4,750 examples) than Mercedes-Benz S-Class (3,077), BMW 7-Series (2,338) and Audi A8 (1,.462) sedans.

Audi took issue with the headline from CNN Money, which said "Tesla sales beating Mercedes, BMW and Audi", and which we will agree with Ingolstadt's people, was misleading, but the chart below and the article itself clearly stated that the numbers concerned the Tesla Model S and the big sedans from the three German premium brands.

Can You See the BMWs in New Hollywood Film Trailer? Sure You Can….

BMW has been caught up in the…illusion of marketing and product placement in yet another Hollywood flick, this time in the upcoming action-thriller film "Now You See Me", directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Jesse Eisenberg, Mark Ruffalo, Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Woody Harrelson.

The brand with the blue and white roundel logo collaborated with the makers of the film to share / advertise a video trailer from the move covering plenty of scenes in which its cars are featured, and focusing especially on its bread-and-butter 3-Series sedan.

Travelling Back in Time: My Visit at the BMW Museum in Munich

For a car enthusiast, a trip to Munich is unconceivable without a stop at the BMW Museum. Its permanent exhibition hosts more than 120 automobiles, motorcycles and engines spanning nine decades of BMW brand history.

For €9, which is equal to US$11.75, I had the chance to travel back in time and see how the BMW legend was born and developed into what is now the world’s largest premium car manufacturer. This is not going to be an exhaustive presentation of my trip, however, as visiting an automobile museum is mostly a subjective experience, so I will only talk about the cars that impressed me the most.

BMW M7 Sports Saloon Speculatively Rendered

If you take a look at BMW's current range of models, the closest thing you can get to a high-performance 7-Series model is the 540hp Alpina B7, which was not only created with the blessings of the Bavarian automaker (like all Alpina models), but in some countries, including the U.S., it’s also distributed by BMW itself. Rare 2013 BMW 750Li M-Sport Individual in a Laguna Seca Blue for Sale [126 photos]

For BMW enthusiasts, the Bavarian brand's cool looking Laguna Seca Blue metallic shade is a very sought after color for the M3 series (especially the E46), though, occasionally you might also see it on a Z coupe or an M5.

What you wouldn't expect to see it on is a long-wheelbase 7-Series, yet a California dealer made it happen through BMW's Individual program that allows buyers to select special exterior colors and interior combinations that are not offered to the general public on the standard list of options.

Spy Shots: 2016 BMW 7-Series to Feature Carbon Fiber Parts

One of the first early prototypes of the next iteration of BMW's 7-Series with the internal code-name G11, has been caught out in the open in Northern Sweden undergoing winter testing.

There's too much camouflage on the car, let alone that many parts on both ends of the prototype, such as the lights, are non-production items, to have a definitive idea of what the G11 looks like, but the lines of the body seem slimmer, especially at the rear end of the saloon, continuing a trend that started with the current F01/F02 generation.

Yippee Ki-Yay, Munich Rivals: Mercedes Stars in New Die Hard Film, BMWs Get Blown Up

Has it really been 25 years since officer John McClane saved the day, or rather Christmas Eve and the hostages, including his wife at the Nakatomi Plaza? Oh yes, but that didn’t stop Bruce Willis from reprising the role thrice in the intervening years – or rather four times, since he’s also starring in the fifth Die Hard installment that’s coming out on Valentine’s Day.

In “A Good Day to Die Hard”, McClane travels to Moscow, meets his estranged son Jack and, as usual, accidentally gets involved in a terrorist scheme that he has to avert.

'Banglenam Style' BMW 7-Series Riding on 28-inch Tall Spinners

As if Chris Bangle's E65 BMW 7-Series from the 2000s needed the extra cosmetic attention, some folks over in Florida have donked out their rides with massive 28-inch tall spinners and are darn proud of it.

On the blingy bright side, these huge Dub Revolution wheels draw our eyes off the 7-Series' infamous Bangle-butt, which can only be a good thing…

General insurance company Swiftcover has released a list with the top 10 vehicles that are most likely to be stolen in Britain.

Oh Russia…Lada Samara Cop Car vs. Deputy Minister's BMW 7-Series

If you see a police car approaching you on the road with its lights and sirens on, you slow down and move to the side and let it pass through, correct?

Well, that's the right thing to do if you're an ordinary citizen, but some individuals in Russia, like drivers of high-ranking government officials, think that they're above the law, the police and everybody else, for that matter.

BMW Recalling 7-Series for Rollaway Threat and for Doors that May Open by Themselves

Bad news for several thousand owners of BMW's previous flagship model, the E65 and E66 7-Series sedan, which is the one featuring the pronounced boot(ie) that came to be known sarcastically as the "Bangle Butt."

The Bavarian carmaker filed two separate recalls on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) website, the first concerning a transmission flaw that could cause the car to roll away, and the other, because of a faulty software concerning the door latches.

Stormbringer: BMW Celebrates 25 Years of 12-Cylinder Engines [49 Photos]

Just like Deep Purple sang in Soldier of Fortune, I feel I’m growing older. Not only because of the receding hairline (or what’s left of it, anyway), the back-aches or my firstborn being less than a year away from high school, but also because BMW has just informed us that its creamy V12 has being powering the top versions of the 7-Series flagship saloon for no less than a quarter of a century.

Some of you may point out that other engines, like Porsche’s flat-six, have been around for much longer, while others may wonder what the big fuss is all about. Hopefully, not too many of you reading this article prefer Justin Bieber to Ritchie Blackmore and David Coverdale.

No matter; on February 1987, seven years before the inexplicably successful young singer was born, BMW released the technical specifications of its then brand-new V12 engine that would power the range-topping 750i and make its debut a month later at the Geneva Motor Show.

Audi S8 vs. BMW Alpina B7: Which One is the King of the Road?

For decades now, German carmakers have dominated the premium segments from top to bottom with only a few notable exceptions questioning their 'authorita' along the way.

Two of the most successful luxury brands from the land of engineering excellence are BMW and Audi, both of which offer a high performance version of their flagship limousines.

Audi chose to go alone to create the S8 sports sedan, which it equipped with the most potent version of its new 4.0-liter TFSI V8 pushing out 513hp (520PS) and 479 lb-ft (648Nm) of peak torque towards all four wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission and a permanent all-wheel drive system.

A Flashback to BMW's Short Film Series "The Hire", Which One is Your Favorite?

In 2001, BMW launched a hugely successful campaign called "The Hire", which was a series of eight short films, each roughly eight to ten minutes long.

The movies were directed by established filmmakers like Ang Lee and the late John Frankenheimer, with actor Clive Owen taking on the role of the "Driver" who was hired by a different person in each movie to transport important people in a number of BMW cars.

While over a decade old now, BMW's film series remains wonderfully entertaining to this day.

BMW Celebrates 25 Years of V12s with a Special Edition 760Li Priced at $159,695

In 1987, BMW took a big step towards being a real premium carmaker with the launch of its first ever V12-powered automobile, the 750iL E32, which was followed shortly after by the 850i that offered the first V12 engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox on a road car.

The 5.0-liter naturally-aspirated V12 unit generated 295hp (300PS) at 5,200 rpm and a peak torque of 450Nm (330 lb·ft) at 4,100 rpm. Ever since, BMW has offered a V12 engine option on its flagship sedan series.

Did BMW “Doctor” its U.S. July Sales to Trump Mercedes-Benz?

In the beginning of August, BMW reported selling 21,297 vehicles in July in the United States - a considerable 1,986 more cars than the rivaling Mercedes-Benz brand. According to sales figures, the 7-Series luxury saloon accounts for 1,696 of them.

So what, you might ask; BMWs are upmarket cars and there are certainly enough people in the US willing to cash up for a 7-Series, which is a very competent car indeed.

The problem is that the exact same model managed only 539 sales in June. A 300 percent increase in a single month is extraordinary and, according to The Wall Street Journal, there is a simple, but ethically questionable, explanation.
