Chevrolet Jumps on the Small CUV Bandwagon with New Trax

The main attraction at Chevrolet's Paris Motor Show stand is the brand-new Trax that made its world premiere today in the City of Light.

If the Trax looks familiar, that's because it is essentially a re-bodied version of the Buick Encore and Opel Mokka twins. It will be sold in some 140 countries worldwide, excluding the United States where General Motors is already represented in the category by the Encore (however, as pointed out by our readers, the Trax will come to Canada).

New Chevrolet Trax Small SUV Pictured and Detailed Ahead of Paris Motor Show World Premiere

After giving us a sneak peak of its new (well, not so new if you've already seen the North American 2013 Buick Encore and the European Opel Mokka) 2013 Chevrolet Trax back in May, General Motors has now dropped a fresh set of photos and released detailed information on the small crossover.

Designed to compete with the likes of the Nissan Juke, the Trax will go on sale in more than 140 countries worldwide but not in the U.S. as Chevy feels that it is covered with the larger Equinox (and GM with the Encore…).

The Chevrolet model measures 4,248 mm (167.2 in.) in length, and features a width of 1,776 mm (69.9 in.) and a wheelbase of 2,555 mm (100.6 in.).

While based on the Buick Encore and Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, the Trax sports uniquely styled front and rear ends, pronounced front and rear wheel arches as well as a boxier rear window line.

New Chevrolet Trax Small Crossover is the Buick Encore's Global Twin, will Debut in Paris

The North American 2013 Buick Encore and its European twin, the Opel Mokka, will soon welcome a new member in their family as Chevrolet has unveiled the third variant of GM's small crossover in advance of its world premiere at the 2012 Paris Motor Show in September.

Chevrolet's version is named Trax, evidently after the company's unrelated 2007 concept. GM says the new Chevrolet Trax will be offered in more than 140 countries around the world with Mexico to be the first market to launch the crossover in the fourth quarter of this year. The small SUV will arrive at European Chevrolet dealerships in spring of 2013.
