Wishing You All a Happy, Safe and Fun Independence Day!

Independence Day, not the film about invading aliens, but the national holiday in the United States commonly known as the Fourth of July, celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

It's also a day when families and friends get together to break out the grill and bring out the booze, have some summer fun, and enjoy the traditional fireworks and the occasional burnout happenings - for those who like to take their classic American metal out for a ride.

A Carscoop…s Update on the Domain Change - Tell Us If You're Having Any Problems

Last night, we implemented a domain change switching from a "blogspot.com" address (or 'blogspot.com.au' if you're viewing the site from Australia, '.blogpspot.fr' from France etc.) to a top-level domain (with an 's', but more on that later…) that we promised a couple of weeks ago as the first part of a series of changes that we have planned for the near future.

On paper, or shall we say, on webpages and support forums, the move is supposedly straightforward, but in practice, there are always unforeseen problems that you have to deal with on a case-to-case basis.

The main glitch that we have been experiencing has to do with the pictures, which for some unexplained (until now) reason, appear and then disappear. We're working to fix this problem along with some other smaller issues such as the comments, as we speak.

Jolly Good News! Autocar has the CarScoop on Alfa Romeo 4C, will get 237hp and 266hp!

Well, tickle me pink and call me Sir Nigel Featherstonehaugh-Smythe. Autocar Magazine is reporting that the Alfa Romeo 4C, which was officially revealed in production form on Tuesday, will be powered by a 1.75-liter turbocharged engine pushing out 237bhp in standard guise.

And we quote news editor / journalist Mark Tisshaw: "Information leaked by Alfa dealers in Switzerland suggests the 4C will be offered with 237bhp in its initial launch guise." Remind you of something? Sure it does, but there's more from where that came from.

Carscoop is Back, and Yes, We're Ready to Move on

It has been almost four days since Google erroneously took down our website, but we're back on our digital feet, and as we told you through our FaceBook page where many of you stayed in touch with us, and for which, we thank you, we're ready to make some important changes to the way Carscoop operates.

But first things first. Naturally, you will be wondering why was Carscoop taken down for the second time in 40 days? Well, sites hosted on Google's Blogger platform are subjected to what the internet giant calls "automated classification system", which made a false positive marking our site as a spam blog. Here's Google's definition of a 'spam blog':

"Spam blogs cause various problems, beyond simply wasting a few seconds of your time when you happen to come across one. They can clog up search engines, making it difficult to find real content on the subjects that interest you. They may scrape content from other sites on the web, using other people's writing to make it look as though they have useful information of their own. And if an automated system is creating spam posts at an extremely high rate, it can impact the speed and quality of the service for other, legitimate users."

Wait a second; if Carscoop creates unique content, then why is it targeted by Google Blogger's 'robots'? Well, prepare yourself for an answer that will surprise you as much as it surprised us. This is what two Blogger Top Contributors (TCs) told Carscoop:

U Spy: We Remember the Cars You Scooped in 2012

We would like to begin by personally thanking each and every one of our readers who contributed with their scoop images and in some cases, videos as well, to our "U Spy" section that has gained a lot of traction over the years, with 2012 being no exception.

The fact that many of you took the time to shoot pictures of yet-to-be revealed models that you happened to cross paths with and picked CarScoop as the site of your choice to share them with other readers and fellow gearheads without ever asking for something in return is truly admirable and sure gets our engines running.

Carscoop's 10 Most Viewed Stories of 2012

No doubt, it's been an interesting year in automotive news. Besides an abundance of important new model presentations such as the VW Golf Mk7, we also witnessed the rebound of North American sales, the rapid decline of Europe's auto market amidst the euro currency crisis, and even announcements on the re-birth of brands like Datsun, just to mention a few of the things that took place in 2012.

But which stories captured the attention of CarScoop's readers the most in 2012? Well, to answer that question, we compiled a list with the 10 most read articles of the year, and let's just say that, while some entrants were to be expected, many caught us by surprise with their presence in the Top 10, especially the ones from previous years. Naturally, the same can be said for those missing from the list…

CarScoop Wishes You a Very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Some say that editors and contributors on this site have petrol instead of blood flowing in their veins and that they’d rather show you the new Ferrari F150 or the Corvette C7 than spend a night with a bunch of Victoria’s Secret angels.

All we know is that everyone here at CarScoop wishes you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays and that we will be taking some time off today (don't worry, we've planned some stories) before resuming normal operations.

Before we bid thee farewell and warn you to drive safely and, in case you intend to have a drink or two, designate a driver or just leave your car keys at home, there’s some breaking news we’d like to share with you.

Welcome to Our Revamped for the 2012MY Commenting System

Just like the auto industry but on a more frequent basis, the software biz regularly polishes up its products to keep them up to date.

By now, you should know that we are not big fans of change just for the sake of change, but for changes that bring meaningful improvements.

On that note, following last year's adoption of the Disqus commenting system, we have now updated to the overhauled 2012 platform that was officially released on June 13.

The Scoop on Our April Fool Day's Posts

Another year, another round of fake stories, all in the name of April Fool's Day. Our top prank was the North American version of Kia's K9 flagship, which we renamed to 9'Series after we crafted in a double kidney grille from BMW to make it look…less like the Bavarian firm's sedans.

We also played along with MINI's "ingenious" Camper trailer and optional roof tent creations, and the $236,000 Cooper Yachtsman amphibious vehicle, as well as Planet Subaru's, blazingly fast solar-powered Tribeca crossover.
