2014 BMW X5 Feels at Home on Every Road in New Promo Video

Just as it did earlier last week with the 4-Series Coupe, BMW uploaded an artistically shot promo of its all-new 2014 X5, showing the third-generation of its so-called "Sports Activity Vehicle" (SAV) in various environments. Read more »

2014 BMW X5 Starts at $53,725 for RWD Version, xDrive Model Close to $8k More Expensive

The good news for customers interested in the new generation of the X5 is that BMW has announced pricing and will soon begin to accept orders with first deliveries scheduled for the final quarter of the year. The bad news is that the fresh styling and new features come with a price hike.

Up until now, the X5 was offered exclusively with BMW's xDrive all-wheel drive system, but with the new generation model, the base X5 sDrive35i is rear-wheel drive and costs $53,725. If you want the 300hp turbo'd straight-six to turn all four wheels, you will have to opt for the X5 xDrive35i that starts at $56,025, which represents a hefty $7,600 increase over the outgoing 2013 X5 xDrive35i ($48,425).

Aussie BMW Dealership Transforms First-Gen X5 Into a Ute / Pick-Up

There are quite a few documented cases of people taking every-day vehicles and turning them into pick-up trucks, or utes, as they are called in Australia where they have just done it again, this time with a first-gen BMW X5 SUV.

While some of the similar projects we’ve seen varied in terms of quality of the finished product, I think this X5, which was done by a BMW dealership from Queensland, is one of the better ones I’ve seen.

BMW Puts All Three X5 Generations Side by Side, Which One Gets Your Vote?

Following the reveal of the third-generation X5, BMW thought it would be a good idea to reunite all three generations of its Sports Activity Vehicle in a video presentation.

Alongside the new model, we get to see the E53 BMW X5, launched in 1999 and the E70 BMW X5, launched in 2006. Entitled “A Work of Progress,” the video underlines the evolution of the X5, something that is visible in the design of the three generations put side by side.

All-New 2014 BMW X5 Detailed by Company Execs in New Video

The third-generation of the BMW X5 is an evolution of the current model that will certainly be appreciated by some and criticized by others, as design has always been a subjective matter. For those who haven't warmed up to the new X5, maybe a look at the M Sport version will help. Read more »

First Photos of 2014 BMW X5 M Sport and X5 M50d, Plus Brochure Catalogue

Just yesterday, BMW released photos and preliminary details on its new generation X5 Series. Among other bits of information, BMW told us about the availability of the optional M Sport package and the M50d performance diesel variant, but it did not share any pictures of these particular X5s.

If you're curious to see what the X5 M Sport and the X5 M50d look like, here's your chance as we got our hands on the first photos of these two models or rather the trim line and the diesel sports version, as well as on a fresh set of images of the regular X5s and the official brochure.

New 2014 BMW X5 Officially Unveiled in All its Evolutionary Glory [70 Photos & Videos]

The first leaked photos of the new 2014 BMW X5 that surfaced on the internet earlier today left few doubts about the path that the Bavarians would follow with the third generation of their premium midsize SUV, or as the brand with the blue and white roundel likes to call it, SAV for Sports Activity Vehicle.

If you were talented enough on the drawing board to imagine the current X5 with various styling elements from the latest 3-Series sedan and the X3, what you would get is the new X5, which is clearly an evolution of the outgoing model with a more upright and serious face dominated by the twin kidney grilles and the extended headlamp covers.

In a similar fashion, the interior styling of the X5 has evolved to incorporate the latest styling trends at BMW like the four round gauges on the instrument panel and the oversized 10.2-inch Control Display Monitor.

At the rear, the folding backrest of the second-row seat can now be split 40:20:40, which allows load capacity to be increased in stages from 23 cu.ft. to 66 cu.ft. (650 – 1,870 liters), based on EU measurements, which BMW says represents up to seven percent more volume than its predecessor.

Looks Like All-New 2014 BMW X5 Revealed in Leaked Official Photo [Updated]

The third-generation of BMW’s X5 Sports Activity Vehicle will premiere at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show in September. Apparently the Internet can’t wait that long, hence we have what appears to be the first official photo of the car.

The image has been posted by a user of the Xbimmer forum this morning and seems to be the “real deal”. Codenamed F15, the 2014 X5 is aesthetically influenced by the new 3-Series, as we can see from the elongated shape of the headlights that are united with the kidney grille, which is also more upright than before.

BMW X5 Has a Mind of Its Own, Decides to Roll while Locked in Park

You may remember a peculiar recall action by BMW last year that involved only six X5 SUVs that posed the risk of rolling while being locked in “Park.” Well, one of these cars confirmed the manufacturer’s worst fears and rolled out twice while being parked with the automatic gearbox locked in the “P” position.

Both of the car’s “adventures” were caught on tape by a surveillance camera installed at the vehicle owner’s home. According to a report from CBC Canada, one of the events resulted in the car being damaged from hitting a tree.

BMW X5 and Audi Racers Cause Huge Accident in Russian Tunnel

Sure, weaving through slower cars while you’re traveling at a much higher speed, can be seen as fun by some, but the small dose of pleasure and adrenaline it generates cannot really begin to match the level of risk you’re exposing yourself and other drivers when acting in such a manner. Like the woman at the beginning of the Need for Speed games says: “Always wear your seat belt, and always obey the laws of the road!”

However, this is exactly what the two drivers in this video don’t do. The one behind the wheel of the BMW X5 (M?) was racing the driver of another fast German car, an Audi estate of some sort (possibly an A6/S6 or A4/S4), through a rather crowed tunnel on the Leningrad highway in Russia.

Wrecked BMW X5 Turned Into a Post-Apocalyptic Flame-Spitting Beast

It all started when the owner of a wrecked BMW X5 E53 4.4i requested aftermarket specialists at Fluid Motor Union (FMU) to bring it back to life. Shortly after, however, the customer abandoned the car with the people at FMU, who took possession of the X5 and decided to do something special with it. They called it Project X.

Their briefing was simple: “We settled on creating a vehicle that oozed the aesthetic of urban assault, with the typical Fluid goal of launching fireballs.” Sounds like fun, right? First thing they changed on the car were the wheels, fitting huge Cragar’s steel rims shod in Dick Cepek rubber. Not your everyday tires, we should mention, as they are covered in skulls and bones.

Future Cars: Rendered Evolution of the 2014 BMW X5 SUV

Evolution is a great process for refining most things we see in life; from science to technology and industrial design just to name a few. Examples of this in the automotive industry can be seen in the internal combustion engine, aerodynamics and styling; speaking of which, one company does this better than most - Porsche.

Its iconic 911 symbolizes the pinnacle of design evolution (although some say it's because they can't be bothered) from its humble beginnings as a squashed and streamlined VW Beetle to the current 911 Carrera; making it arguably one if the most recognizable pieces of automotive sculpture around the globe.

Porsche isn't the only brand taking this approach; evolutionary examples can be seen in the VW Golf, Range Rover, Mazda Miata and various BMW's. The Hofmeister kink and twin-kidney grill are the most recognizable aspects of BMW's design DNA, but things are also getting familiar with surface styling too.

Most Revealing Spy Shots of 2014 BMW X5 SUV Yet

BMW is one of many carmakers that gradually ease up on the camouflage on their prototype models as they edge closer to revealing the production version.

Such is the case with the next X5 that's due to launch next year, possibly at the Frankfurt Auto Show in September, though we wouldn’t rule out an earlier reveal.

In these fresh scoop photos, the third generation of the X5 has done away with many layers of foil wraps allowing us to see the sharper and more protruding nose with the production headlamps, the elongated shape of which bring to mind those found on the F30 3-Series, and the more upright double kidney grille.

Convoy of 2014 BMW X5 and Possibly X5M Prototypes Filmed in Georgia

A YouTuber who goes by the name Frank Steele stumbled upon a convoy of five 2014 BMW X5 prototypes in the city of Chamblee in Georgia, this past Sunday.

We can't be 100 percent certain because of the quality of the video and the fact that the cars were on the move, but there's a good chance that the first model seen in clip may be an M Performance model or an X5 fitted with the M Sport Package, while the fourth test car looks like it could be the new X5M.

BMW Recalling Near 30,000 X5 Diesels Because They May Lose Steering Power

The latest automaker to join in on the recall dance is BMW, which fears that its 2009-2012 X5 xDrive 35d diesel-powered crossovers may suffer from a problem that could lead to a loss of power steering.

In a filing with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHSTA), BMW said an engine belt idler pulley bolt that could loosen and break over time causes the issue at hand.

Spy Shots: Next Generation of BMW's Twin-Turbo X5 M SUV

Only a day after we showed you a video of BMW's "super" SUV doing the rounds on the Nürburgring, our man with the photographic lens caught another prototype affording us a motionless view of the next X5 M.

But how do we know for sure that this is indeed the "M" model and not one of the lower powered versions of the F15 (that's BMW's internal code for the next X5)?

Well, the large alloy wheels draped in extra beefy low profile tires, along with the huge brake discs and mainly, the twin tailpipes on both corners of the rear diffuser, are all typical traits of BMW's M series of models.

Scoop: 2015 BMW X5 M Prototype Pushed Hard on the Nürburgring

It takes a lot of work and many dedicated people to create any type of vehicle that is to be sold to the public, but trying out some cars can be a little bit more enjoying than others, even if we are talking about an SUV.

Unlike their arbeitskolleges at Mercedes-Benz's AMG department who had an unfortunate mishap earlier today with the SLS GT AMG…Toast Edition, BMW's M people were able to keep the upcoming X5 M under control while pushing the performance crossover to its limits on the Nordschleife.
