If you though that Jeeps wouldn’t get any smaller, Edmunds has just posted a report which says that the Fiat-controlled builder of off-road vehicles is, in fact, getting ready to add a sub-compact SUV to its range.

The new model will reportedly be built on a Fiat platform, in Italy, and will address a global audience, trying to woo buyers with its Ford Fiesta-esque dimensions, infused with all the brand-specific qualities that they would look for. It is set to be launched some time in 2014.

WaterCar Panther Amphibious Car with Honda V6 Enters Production [Updated]

We kept the opening shot for this piece deliberately unrevealing, because this is not at all what you were imagining when picturing the world’s fastest amphibious car – or so the company that makes it claims. However, the WaterCar Panther is just that, and it’s also available for order, after “fourteen years, countless successes and failures, 27 patents, and untold labor hours,” as we're told by the company. Chrysler Caves in to NHTSA Demands and Issues Recall for Fire Risk on Jeeps

So much for the Chrysler Group's tough stance against the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) after the agency recommended the recall of some 2.7 million Jeep Grand Cherokee and Liberty because the rear-mounted fuel tanks performed poorly in rear-end collisions.

On June 4, the Detroit carmaker issued a statement, in which it said: "The company [Chrysler Group] does not agree with NHTSA’s conclusions and does not intend to recall the vehicles cited in the investigation. The subject vehicles are safe and are not defective."

Chrysler Group Rejects NHTSA's Recall Request for Jeep Models – Who Would You Trust?

Most of the times, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and automakers work together and agree upon a recall when there's a problem or at least the potential for an issue with a car, but it isn't always like this.

Recently, the NHTSA issued a recommendation for the recall of around 2.7 million Jeep SUVs, including the 1993-2004 model-year Grand Cherokee and 2002-2007 Liberty, after assessing that the fuel tanks in these models pose an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety in rear-impact collisions.

U Spy: What's Jeep Doing with a Fully Camouflaged 2014 Cherokee in Hollywood?

Given Carscoops' readers sentiments on the design of the new generation 2014 Jeep Cherokee, as strongly expressed in the comments sections our inaugural posts about the car here and here, it's not hard to imagine what some of the answers may be to the question posed in our title.

But seriously now, if you were to block the images of the Cherokee from your thoughts, what do you think Jeep is doing with this prototype in full camouflage, which was nabbed this week by Carscoops' reader Stephen D. as he was driving to his work in Hollywood, California?

New Maserati Levante to be Less Jeep-Like, will be Built in Italy, Says Report

We’re no longer surprised that Maserati is making an SUV, and in fact, we had a hunch they were going to do it even before they made their intentions official, with the revealing of the Kubang concept, back in 2011 at the Frankfurt Auto Show. Now we know it is set for production, bearing the Levante name, however, many details regarding it are still unclear. Read more »

Chrysler Group Announces Production of One Millionth Jeep Wrangler JK

As far as American automotive icons, there’s only a handful of cars which can actually touch the Jeep Wrangler, because most of the world is familiar with its shape from World War II, and they have been smart over the years to really retain the look everybody knows and recognizes.

This coupled with the fact that it has always been one of the more capable off-road machines are now culminating with Chrysler announcing the building of the one millionth Wrangler of the JK generation (2007 – present) through their Facebook page.

“We did start with an initial scheduled plan of the third week in May, and now we are into mid-June,” said Mark Chernoby, Chrysler’s senior vice president of engineering, according a Detroit Free Press report. “That is just due to a wide range of issues.” He added that these issues are common when launching an all-new car or truck and that the automaker is ironing them out.

Hennessey-Tuned Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Gets to 60MPH in 3.9 Seconds

A heavy SUV, which has been lowered, stiffened and bestowed with a monster V8 engine is a somewhat pointless exercise, and does not make a great off-roader or sports car. However, enough power will negate any kind of weight in a straight line, and that’s where the Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT fitted with the Hennessey HPE650 upgrade kit shines. Read more »

Jeep Baptizes New Cherokee as the "Zi You Guang" in China

China will be the first market outside of the United States to get its first view of the new and rather controversial looking, 2014 Jeep Cherokee, which will make its international debut at the 2013 Shanghai Auto Show on April 20.

While the looks will remain the same, Jeep's local arm decided to name the SUV the "Zi You Guang", which, at least according to CarNewsChina, loosely translates to "Liberty Light", so in some ways, the new Cherokee keeps the name of its predecessor (called Liberty in North America).

SRT Shows Us What Goes on In Their "Color Kitchen"

The latest offerings from Chrysler's SRT division always seem to "pop" out color-wise, especially when the cars are all polished up on the motor show floor. This is not by accident, as each car in the range gets its own bespoke colors, which is chosen with a number of factors in mind. First off, there is the car’s history, then there’s its general shape, and finally it’s what SRT wants to show with a particular model. Read more »

MT Pits the All-New 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Diesel Against the VW Touareg V6 TDI

Jeep seems to be really proud of what it has achieved with the Grand Cherokee, now that it has been redesigned for the 2014 model-year. It can be seen in the way they show it off, the style of writing that they use to promote it, and in the fact that that they gave it a credible SRT version. Jeep Hides 2014 Cherokee's Quirky Face in New POV Video

Jeep is saying that the all-new 2014Cherokee is the "most capable mid-size SUV" (they fail to mention, in which areas, though).

Keen to prove that the brand is heading in the right direction, and keeping true to its core attribute of excellent off-road ability, they have now released a short video, which shows the awkwardly-styled SUV negotiating some pretty serious terrain – a place a where a rock-crawler would be much more at home.
