Peugeot to Double 2008 Production to Keep Up With Demand

Peugeot is not really doing very well, currently, with factories closing down and some models not selling as well as anticipated, but there may still be hope with their 2008 small SUV/crossover. Apparently, the model has proven popular for all sorts of buyers, and its reception has been a very positive one (see our test drive here). Read more »

Driven: New Peugeot 2008 – A Grown-Up 208 That Goes Off-Road

Wake up early, drive two hours to the airport, catch the flight to whatever destination the program dictates (in this case it’s Paris), though my trip doesn’t stop there. Peugeot has decided to launch the new 2008 small crossover in Strasbourg. This means another boarding, this time on the TGV – that’s train de grande vitesse, or high-speed train. Yep, it sure is high-speed, at one point reaching 326 km/h (203 mph) but, even so, it takes two and a half hours to get there. I hope it’s worth all the time and a sore bum.

Going Global

The 2008 is Peugeot’s entry in the expanding small SUV niche. At 4.16 m long, it’s 200 mm longer than the 208 hatchback on which it is based and is poised to take on rivals such as the Nissan Juke, the Renault Captur and the Ford EcoSport. Mind you, the wheelbase remains the same (2,538 mm) so the extra length is accounted for by the slightly increased front and, mostly, rear overhang that increases boot volume from 295 to 360 lt (VDA).

Peugeot Officially Unveils 2008 Crossover, Premieres at the Geneva Auto Show

The B-Segment SUV market has just (officially) got itself another contestant in the form of the Peugeot 2008 that will make its international debut at the Geneva Auto Show in March, following an early release of the first pictures of the car on Friday.

The “urban crossover”, as the French marque calls it, will compete against vehicles such as the Nissan Juke, the Opel/Vauxhall Mokka, the Chevroler Traxx and the Mini Countryman and, according to Mazime Picat, the company’s general director, will "secure Peugeot’s leadership in the segment and will win new customers in Asia and Latin America”.

First Official Photos of All-New Peugeot 2008 Small Crossover

We cannot know if Peugeot intended for us to see its new 2008 crossover so early, but fact is, official pictures of the car are already making the rounds on the internet.

Peugeot previewed its new Nissan Juke and Opel / Vauxhall Mokka (Buick Encore in North America) with a thinly disguised concept model at last year's Paris Motor Show.

Peugeot 2008 Soft-Roader Concept Hits at Next Year's Production Model

Besides the 260bhp RCZ R and the Onyx Supercar and Super Scooter models, Peugeot is also displaying a fourth concept model at the 2012 Paris Motor Show, the 2008, which hints at the firm's Nissan Juke rival that will be presented next year.

The 2008 is a follow up to the ‘Urban Crossover Concept’ revealed in Beijing earlier this year with a more vibrant color scheme, but other than that, the two models are identical.

Peugeot 2008 Concept Previews Upcoming Small Crossover Model to Rival Nissan Juke

The Onyx wasn't the only concept model from Peugeot to receive an online debut today prior to the Paris Motor Show as a second study from the French automaker also came into light, the 2008 Concept.

Whereas as the Onyx is a flight of fantasy, the 2008 Concept is a precursor of an upcoming production crossover in the B-segment (sub-compact category) – think Nissan Juke. How do we know this, you may ask?
