Meet David Letterman's Volvo 960 Estate with a Ford V8 Racing Engine

Did you know that Paul Newman once commissioned a Volvo 960 with a racing V8 engine? Well, as a matter of fact, he commissioned two units, one for him and one for his racing partner David Letterman. The talk-show host still owns the car and brought it along when Jerry Seinfeld asked him to be the guest of his show, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee. Read more »

BMW 2002 with a Wide Booty and 5.0-Liter Mustang V8 Up for Grabs on eBay

If classic car ownership is what you’re interested in, then perhaps you should look elsewhere…This piece focuses on a BMW 2002 from 1969 that has been painted a very strange two-tone combination of olive green and brown, which does nothing to hide the huge flared wheel arches.

The car's interior has been stripped out, literally, and what is left can only be called minimalist – it’s not eye catching in any way, but you won’t have time to check out the hole where the dash was supposed to be, because this car packs a 5.0-liter V8 engine from a Ford Mustang that breathes out through matte-white side pipes!

This BMW 3-Series E30 Runs on a Ford-Sourced 302 V8

BMW's first ever 3-Series sedan model, the E30, remains a fairly popular choice among enthusiasts of the brand with the blue and white roundel, but finding a pristine example is becoming more and more difficult as the years roll by.

It’s not unusual for owners of E30s that have been around the block one time too many to swap the model's factory inline-four and six-cylinder engines with different powerplants, often from other brands.

Volvo Terror is a Turbocharged Tractor that will Knock Your Socks Off

It will burn rubber, do donuts, drift on the field and at the same time, plow your farm; meet the Volvo Terror, an old tractor from the middle of the last century that has been outfitted with a Volvo-sourced B21ET turbocharged petrol engine.

The B21ET belongs to Volvo's Redblock gasoline engine series and was used on cars like the 240. In factory form, the 2.1-liter turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine developed 155hp (157PS). Whether the engine found in the tractor is completely stock or has been upgraded, remains unknown.

Volvette V70 Police Car is Here to Serve Some Crazy Donuts

Volvo station wagons have always been some of the most understated and widely misunderstood cars in the market, which ultimately makes them the ideal candidates for insane sleeper (or Q) cars.

As clearly hinted by its name, the Volvette featured here is a V70 estate that does away with its factory Volvo engine to adopt an American heart and drivetrain from an early 2000s Corvette C5 Z06.

Aston Martin Allegedly Mulling 5.9-liter V12-Powered Cygnet!

We have no idea how it can be done, but Aston Martin is reportedly thinking about shoehorning its 5.9-liter V12 engine into the miniscule Cygnet city car to create a special build that makes the Nissan Juke R look like a walk in the park.

We will remind you that the Cygnet is the Aston Martin-badged version of the Toyota and Scion iQ three-door hatchbacks, and that at 3,078mm (121.8 inches) long, it is roughly the same length as the wheelbase of the regular BMW 7-Series sedan (the Li models have a 3,210mm long wheelbase…).

Mopar Drops the SRT Viper's V10 Into the Dodge Charger Juiced Concept

If there's one thing Mopar's people like doing to Chrysler Group cars more than anything else, it is to shoehorn the brand's gargantuan V10 powerplant under their hoods.

For this year's SEMA Show, they had the opportunity to do it again, this time with the latest iteration of the Dodge Charger sports sedan that gets a Viper 8.4-liter V10 Mopar crate engine, good enough for 650-horsepower, or 10hp more than the new 2013 SRT Viper sports coupe.

BMW 3-Series E30 Packs a 4.4-liter V8 Punch

As far as extreme engine swaps and BMW E30s go, the V12-powered 350i we discovered back in 2007 no doubt takes the cake.

However, this 1989 3-Series sedan found for sale in Holland comes pretty close as the owner shoehorned a 4.4-liter V8 engine (M62B44) from a 1996-1998 540i E39 under its bonnet.

Great Scott! A DeLorean for a Back to the Future Trip to Mad Max's Dystopian Land

More than anything else, the appearance of the DeLorean DMC-12 as a time machine in the Back to the Future trilogy secured John DeLorean's stainless-steel bodied creation a permanent place in Hollywood history and popular culture.

Some thirty years after the DeLorean Motor Company was forced to close shop in 1982, around 6,500 examples of the iconic gull-wing sports car powered by a V6 engine jointly developed by Peugeot, Renault and Volvo Cars, are believed to exist on the roads today.

Crazy MINI with a 170HP Yamaha R1 Engine Swap Taunts a Lamborghini Gallardo

If you are looking for a truly unique Mini model to knock you off your socks, forget about the official John Cooper Works variants and the numerous projects presented over the years by the mainstream tuning industry, and check out this 1970's Austin Mini by Pro-Motive.

What makes this car fascinating is not the fact that it has a different engine, but the type of engine as it is fitted with a rev-crazy, 170HP 1.0-liter inline-four sourced from a 2003 Yamaha YZF-R1 sports bike!

Listen to This Ford Festiva Running a 1,340cc V-Twin Harley Davidson Engine!

As one of the lower points in Ford Motor Corp.'s history, the first generation of the Mazda-designed Festiva hatchback built from 1986 to 1993 (also sold as the Mazda 121 and Kia Pride) is not the kind of car that you would expect to excite a petrol head at a car meet.

Unless, of course, there's something odd lurking behind its plain Jane-looking snout, as was the case of this modified Festiva that was filmed by Carscoop reader Martin B. a few years back.

Custom Built E30 BMW M3 Touring with E36 M3's Straight-Six

Earlier today, we told you about a 1970s BMW 1602 Coupe turned into a pickup truck with an inline-six from the E30 325i that we discovered on eBay, but that wasn't the only custom Bimmer we found on the online auction shop.

Case in point this 1990 (1991MY) BMW 318i Touring that was transformed into an M3 Touring. Those of you familiar with the E30's history will know that BMW never built a station wagon version of the E30 M3, which was exclusively available in coupe and convertible body styles.

BMW 1602 Converted Into a Six-Cylinder Sports Truck

The BMW "New Class" is a landmark vehicle line in the Bavarian carmaker's history that spawned a series of models including 1500 and 1800 sedans, the 2002 Touring hatchback and of course, the famed 2002tii and 2002 Turbo coupes, all of which paved the way for the birth of the 3-Series.

What BMW did not create was a pickup-truck version of the Neue Klasse in the style of the Chevrolet El Camino or the Australian Ford and Holden Utes.

So how did this 1971 model pictured here come to be? This car is the brainchild of San Francisco, California-based tuning and service company Ottowerks and it has been listed for sale on eBay.

Ottowerks says it begun with a 1971 BMW "1600", which we assume from the body, is the 1602 coupe model. After cutting the roof from the driver's seat and back and removing the rear seat bench, Ottowerks crafted a truck bed.

This Ain't Your Grandpa's Ford Granada but a 1,700hp Koenigsegg CCX Powered Zzzleeper…

There's nothing really special about the second generation of the European Ford Granada that was built from 1977 to 1985, which is probably why one owner in Britain chose it for a sleeper project.

Putting aside a handful of 1980s aero bits, the only other interesting bit about the exterior of this Granada are the Zzz-Zzz license plates.

Pop up the hood, however, and it's an entirely different story as this puppy has been fitted with 4.7-liter Ford V8 sourced from a Koenigsegg CCX supercar that is good for a whopping 1,700-horsepower!

1971 Plymouth ViperCuda Packs a Venomous V10 Punch Under its Hood

One of the great things about classic American pony and muscles cars is their simplicity, which pretty much allows you do anything your mind sets out to do, with the only restrictions usually being the amount of time and cash you are willing to spend.

Found for sale on eBay, is this 1971 Plymouth ViperCuda, which as the name suggests, is powered by a V10 engine sourced from the modern day Dodge Viper. But there's more than meets the eye to this creation that started life as a four-seater 1971 Plymouth Barracuda Convertible with a 318 cu.in. (5.2-liter V8) engine.

The comprehensive conversion was performed by Time Machines from Hudson, Florida, which begun by acquiring the intact chassis and V10 engine from a wrecked 2001 Viper with 23,000-miles on the odo.

After stripping the Barracuda's body from the original chassis, they then fabricated a hybrid platform incorporating most parts of the Viper's chassis components including the fully independent suspension.

Killing Machine: 1973 VW Beetle with a Subaru WRX STI 2.0-liter Turbo Engine

If you believe that even with its run-of-the-mill 44bhp 1.3-liter air-cooled engine, the 1970's Volkswagen Beetle is a tough car to handle on the road, then you can only imagine what it would be like to try and control a Bug fitted with the zappy 2.0-liter turbocharged boxer engine from a Subaru Impreza WRX STi…

To make matters worse, the German dealer who listed the converted Beetle STi on a Romanian car sales website called 'Webcar' doesn’t mention anything about suspension upgrades.

Massachusetts Subaru Dealer Turns Tribeca into a Solar-Powered EV!

After successfully installing close to 400 solar panels on the roof of its dealership in Hannover, Massachusetts, Planet Subaru is once again pushing the envelope of lime-green innovation with the presentation of the Tribeca SPT 588QW DRX EV, powered exclusively by the sun.

The single solar panel is mounted on the Japanese crossover's roof feeding a Di-Lithium Crystal Transductor that serves as a capacitor and a very powerful electric motor that replaces the Tribeca's traditional boxer engine.
