Mansory G-Couture Spotted in London – It’s a Carbon-Clad Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen

If a car reflects its owner, then I'm really curious to see who drives this Mansory G-Couture. I'm guessing it's somebody who was wowed by the fact that they are making only seven of them (exclusivity does sell), and wouldn’t you know it, this one is registered in Abu Dhabi, in all its carbon-clad glory. Russian Mercedes-Benz AMG TV Spot Takes it Easy

All those crazy dash-cam videos from Russia that are circulating on the internet would lead you to believe that any car footage related to the land of vodka, babushkas and caviar would entail a crash or at least someone pointing a gun to a motorist. Read more »

MT Goes Off-Road in the New Range Rover and Mercedes’ G-Wagen

The 2002 to 2012 Range Rover was such a capable SUV, that one wondered how they could really improve the formula for the all-new generation model, which made its debut in September of 2012, at the Paris motor show. Now that a few months have passed, they are starting to be seen parked up along boulevards of posh neighborhoods all over the world – seeing one is still an event, but as with the old model, it will eventually become commonplace. This is What Dartz Motorz Will Do to a Mercedes G 63 AMG 6x6 When it Gets Hold of One

From the moment Mercedes-Benz published the first photos of the G 63 AMG 6x6 we knew it was just a matter of time until aftermarket companies started releasing their customizing propositions.

The first tuner to tease a package for the 6x6 truck is Latvian company Dartz Motorz, the maker of the armored Prombron SUV, famous for being originally available with leather upholstery made from the...foreskin of whale penises. Dartz’ interpretation of the G 63 AMG 6x6 is called the Sahara G-eopard and has been styled by Romanian designer Marius Dumitrascu.

What the Bling? Ever Dream of a Coin-Wrapped Range Rover or G-Class?

Have you ever heard of cars wrapped in coins? Neither did we, but in the oil-rich Middle East, this is one of the most peculiar customizing techniques for auto enthusiasts. Forget wrapping your car in gold foil, everybody can do that. This coin-wrapping stuff is much rarer and harder to do.

The Range Rover in the video below uploaded by YouTube user Patrick3331 has no less than 57,412 coins attached to its bodywork!

Oil Kings Will Love It: Mercedes-Benz Details the G 63 AMG 6x6 Pickup in Huge Gallery

There is no doubt about the target group Mercedes-Benz had in mind when developing the G 63 AMG 6x6 pre-production off-road vehicle. The pictures set in the desert and press release say it all: “The show vehicle is able to storm up the highest sand dunes with ease while sand tracks hold no fears thanks to its unshakable directional stability.” Read more »

Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG 6x6: It's Real, It’s Wild and It's Entering Production

Arab sheiks watch out because Mercedes-Benz is coming (once again…) after your petrol dollars. If the new twin-turbocharged V8 and V12 AMG versions of the refreshed 2013 G-Class aren't special or capable enough, the brand with the star has prepared a zanier iteration of its classic off-roader, aptly named the G63 AMG 6x6, but feel free to call it "das tier"…

In case you didn’t notice it in the pictures, the "6x6" refers to the new model's six driven wheels. Benz didn't exactly design the SUV from scratch, as it is based on a special military version of the G320 CDI made for the Australian army and which is in use since 2011, according to an Autoweek report.

Yippee Ki-Yay, Munich Rivals: Mercedes Stars in New Die Hard Film, BMWs Get Blown Up

Has it really been 25 years since officer John McClane saved the day, or rather Christmas Eve and the hostages, including his wife at the Nakatomi Plaza? Oh yes, but that didn’t stop Bruce Willis from reprising the role thrice in the intervening years – or rather four times, since he’s also starring in the fifth Die Hard installment that’s coming out on Valentine’s Day.

In “A Good Day to Die Hard”, McClane travels to Moscow, meets his estranged son Jack and, as usual, accidentally gets involved in a terrorist scheme that he has to avert.

Mercedes’ LA Show Ener-G-Force Would Make One Cool Looking G-Class

This year’s LA Auto Show Design Challenge theme was about the ultimate highway patrol vehicle of 2025. Mercedes-Benz was one of the carmakers that picked up the gauntlet and its Advanced Design Center California came up with the Ener-G-Force patrol concept.

Their work was deemed good enough to turn the “pure science fiction” Highway Patrol Vehicle into a full-size concept car. Instead of a law enforcement vehicle, though, it became a study of how the G-Wagen, a hardcore off-roader that has been with us since 1979 might evolve in the future.

Mercedes' LA Show SUV Concept Comes to Life; Says it Previews the Future for the G-Class

For this year's LA Auto Show Design Challenge, the organizers of the event asked automakers to dream up a patrol vehicle for the year 2025. Mercedes-Benz's North American arm and its Advanced Design Center California worked their magic and came up with the Ener-G-Force concept for an off-road patrol car.

Not content with the design drawings, Mercedes-Benz brought the Ener-G-Force study to life with a 1:1-scale model, albeit in civilian attire, with plans to present it to the public at the 2012 Los Angeles Auto Show from the end of the month.

The German carmaker makes no effort to hide the fact that the concept could preview a future design direction for its classic G-Class that has been in production since 1979, having been refined over the years.

"The Ener-G-Force is the vision of an off-roader that, while reflecting tomorrow’s adventures, also invokes the genes of the Mercedes-Benz off-road icon, the G model," explained Gorden Wagener, Director of Design at Mercedes-Benz Cars. "Modern and cool, it could also be a clue about a new beginning for the off-road design idiom of Mercedes-Benz."

That's One Way to Destroy to a Mercedes-Benz G-Wagen…

Besides being amongst the most recognizable and oldest cars in production, the Mercedes-Benz G-Class or G-Wagen is also a tremendously capable off-road vehicle and one of the very few models in its class to use three fully locking differentials.

Nevertheless, you can understand that there are limits to what it can achieve. For example, attempting to conquer an extremely steep hillside cresting close to a 90-degree angle at full speed is practically begging for trouble.

Mercedes-Benz G-Class Proving Popular in China and Russia

Not too long, Mercedes-Benz had contemplated ending production of the rugged G-Class, also known as G-Wagen which is short for Geländewagen, but the Stuttgart-based carmaker changed its mind after seeing a surge in demand for the SUV from China and Russia.

Axel Harries, head of Mercedes SUV product line, told Autonews Europe that sales of the G-Class, which has been in production since 1979, jumped 50 percent over the past three years mainly due to high demand from Russia and China.

Mercedes-Benz G500 "Lang" Pickup Truck is Larger than Life

An extended wheelbase, pickup truck conversion of a Mercedes-Benz G-Class is something you expect to see in the land of infinite highways and not in the land of chocolate, beer and streets so tiny that a Toyota/Scion iQ is used to collect imagery from streets that were too narrow for Google's regular camera cars… Read more »
