Subaru Builds New WRX STI tS TYPE RA Special Only for Japan [w/Video]

Japanese automakers never really achieved any notable success in naming their cars and Subaru isn't exactly helping change that notion with the new WRX STI tS TYPE RA, which is a special edition version of its high-performance Impreza sedan made exclusively for the local market.

Did we mention that there's also an optionally available package, with which the car's name becomes the "Subaru WRX STI tS TYPE RA NBR CHALLENGE PACKAGE"?

Reckless Subaru Boy Racer Learns the Hard Way that Public Roads are Not Racetracks [Updated]

Unfortunately, for regular drivers minding their own business, sometimes they share the road with so-called boy-racers who mistake public streets for Need for Speed video game stages. Considering that many of these boy racers drive powerful cars, like the person in the following video, the outcome of their “adventures” is far too often a tragic one. Read more »

"Mystery" Prototype Testing at Mulholland is the 2015 Subaru WRX - Plus Bonus Footage

One of the many regular car- and motorcycle-spotters at the infamous Mulholland Drive, just outside of Los Angeles, was on hand to film several passes of what he described as a "Mystery Car".

"Some Mulholland passes from an un-named car," wrote YouTube author 31200MulhollandHwy, adding that, "CHP [California Highway Patrol] closed the road intermittently - Japanese crew wouldn't give any info on car."

Recall for Alfa 8C, Maserati Quattroporte and GranTurismo, and Subaru Outback and Legacy

The beginning of the week brings two separate and unrelated recall actions, the first from Alfa Romeo and Maserati, and the second from Subaru.

Maserati's North American division issued the recall for certain model year 2005-2008 Quattroporte, 2008 Granturismo, and 2008 Alfa Romeo 8C vehicles, because rear tie rod assemblies on these cars may have insufficient anti-corrosion material applied and could rust and weaken, leading to a possible fail.

450HP Tuned Subaru BRZ Might be the One You’ve Been Waiting For

The Subaru BRZ is one of the hottest sports cars on the market right now, blending an excellent chassis with a fairly stylish body style and affordable pricing. It has really stolen the sports car show ever since it was launched, along with its two other Toyota- and Scion-badged sister models. The only complaint people are having with the coupe up until this point is that its straight line performance is poorer than that of a well-sorted hot hatch. Read more »

Subaru Shows Quick Video History of Proprietary Crash Tests

Back in the days before car crash safety was regulated, manufacturers employed whatever techniques they deemed would be efficient in limiting the extent of the damage/injuries caused by an accident. First, there were collapsible steering racks and padded dashboards, which were followed by strengthening beams running through the car and finally airbags. Read more »

Subaru Recalling Cars for Curling Mats, Nissan for Spare Tire Inflation and Honda Over ESC

In its latest release, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has shared detailed information on three separate and unrelated recalls from the same number of carmakers.

We'll begin with Subaru, which is recalling 10,137 Forester SUVs made from January 2013 through March 2013 over an issue with the carpeted floor mats that may curl when exposed to heat. This can be a problem when it occurs with the driver-side floor mat as it can interfere with the "proper operation of one or a combination of, the vehicle's clutch, brake, and accelerator pedals". A similar issue had plagued Toyota causing one of the widely publicized sudden acceleration-related recalls.

Watch the 2015 Subaru WRX Prototype Run In and Out of the Nürburgring

We know what your first question will be about the spy video and these latest shots of the 2015 Subaru WRX prototype, but unfortunately, we can't give you an answer yet if this is the wishy-washy (read complete letdown), production version of the dramatic WRX Concept, a WRX iteration of the current Impreza to be offered before or alongside the aforementioned WRX, or an early test mule. Subaru Uses Mimes and Amusing Animations to Explain Company Philosophy

When you think Subaru, you think all-wheel drive, boxer engines and rally pedigree. These are unquestionable brand traits that are, more or less, still present in many of their current (in-house designed) models – the BRZ is one of the exceptions, along with a few rebadge jobs based on cars from other automakers. 2015 Subaru WRX Scooped: If This Is It, be Prepared for a Styling Letdown…

One of the worst things about impressive concept cars such as the new Subaru WRX that was by far, the most talked about (in a very positive way) world premiere at the recent 2013 New York Auto Show, is when carmakers water down the design on their production iterations.

Could this be the case with the upcoming Subaru WRX? Well, if the camouflaged Subaru prototype that our scoop photographers just captured in Germany is indeed the WRX, then the answer is yes, as there's no denying that it follows in the footsteps of its predecessors simply wearing a sportier kit over the regular Impreza sedan's body.

Subaru Design Boss Osamu Namba Talks WRX Concept in New Video

Subaru’s stunning WRX Concept that was revealed at the 2013 New York International Auto Show has given enthusiasts big hopes for the upcoming WRX and the WRX STI flagship model. Composting Methane Fusion-Drive Subaru BRZ Takes Us Back to a Stinky Future [w/Video]

If you thought that what the Subaru BRZ needed was a complicated and seemingly unfeasible hybrid system, then this article will be right up your alley. This BRZ from 'Planet Subaru', a Hannover Massachusetts, dealerships, has been fitted with a composting Methane Fusion Drive hybrid system, which as its name suggests is a very ingenious way to power a sports car – it's exactly what Dr. Emmett Brown from the Back to the Future trilogy would have done, had he been given a BRZ to fettle with. Subaru BRZ AWD Twin-Turbo Convertible Diesel Hybrid Coming on…April 1st

While out for…fishing, Subaru of America announced that it will launch a Convertible version of its BRZ sports car with AWD and a twin-turbocharged diesel engine.

“Having just launched the current model to widespread critical acclaim, we are tired of fighting off the constant speculation about what’s “next” and so we are just giving in and delivering all the speculation in one vehicle,” said the company in a statement released on April 1st.

Subaru Unveils XV Crosstrek Hybrid at the New York Auto Show

Having been on the US market for just over a year now, Subaru's XV Crosstrek didn't necessarily need an appeal-boosting new version or improvements at this very moment, but the Japanese automaker has decided that the 2013 NY motor show is the perfect venue to launch a hybrid version of the crossover.

It is actually a very important car, as it is Subaru's first ever hybrid and it has therefore got to prove itself.

Bring it On: Subaru WRX Concept Premieres at the New York Auto Show [w/Video]

Subaru is finally contemplating what every sensible gearhead has been telling both Subaru and Mitsubishi to do with their excellent Impreza WRX / STI and Lancer Evolution models, respectively, for decades now: keep their dynamic characteristics and dress them in a unique body that has nothing in common with their mainstream models.

While Mitsubishi is still thinking what to do with the EVO series in general, Subaru is showing us what it has in store for us with the next generation WRX, and its more powerful STi sibling, with the world premiere of the all-new WRX Concept car at the New York International Auto Show.

The study adopts a body style that most carmakers like to call a "four-door coupe", adorned with all the aggressive details one would expect from a WRX model (with a hint of Lancer EVO, some might say) like the powerbulge on the hood, muscular wheel arches that make room for the 20-inch forged alloy wheels wrapped in 245/40ZR20 Dunlop rubber and a prominent rear diffuser. Only now, all these elements look natural and not planted like on the Impreza models.

The study measures 178.0 inches (4,521mm) long, 74.4 inches (1,889mm) wide and 54.7 inches (1,389mm) tall, which makes it slightly shorter, lower and wider than the Impreza Mk4 sedan. Its wheelbase is also significantly longer at 108.7 inches (2,761mm) compared to the Impreza's at 104.1 inches (2,644mm).

Subaru WRX Concept: Are These Official Photos of the New York Auto Show Model?

Images of what is pledged to be Subaru's New York Auto Show-bound performance concept have just surfaced on the internet. The rear license plate on the car reads "Subaru WRX Concept", which is what we expected from the Japanese automaker when it first told us about its world premieres at the Big Apple.

At this time, we cannot independently confirm the claim that this is indeed that concept, but we will say that the close-up images look real.
