eBay Find: 1980 Mazda RX-7 GS


If you want to save yourself a lot of hassle in choosing an old sports car to drive around, there’s nothing wrong with going Japanese. Like this fairly clean first-gen 1980 Mazda RX-7 GS we found on eBay, which is said to be both mechanically sound and good to look at, according to its owner who bought it from “a friend of the original owner.”

Nevertheless, as with any used car and especially one fitted with a rotary engine, it would be wise to have a mechanic check it out and eliminate any nasty and costly surprises.

Paging Mazda: The New RX-7 is Long Overdue, Better Build it ASAP


Right now, a group of designers and engineers in Hiroshima are supposedly working on Mazda’s next sports car with a rotary engine. Nobuhiro Yamamoto, the company’s car chief, let it slip a couple of months ago that a “new RX-7” is on the cards for 2017.

This means it's still four years away. That’s an eternity in the automotive world and many things can change until then. Especially those that, as Yamamoto acknowledged, are “not carved in stone”… Well, they’d better be.

Mazda Sports Car Chief Says RX-7 will Return in 2017, Produce 295HP


If Helen of Troy was the face that launched a thousand ships, then the Mazda RX-7 is definitely the car that has launched a thousand rumors about being resurrected since its discontinuation a decade ago.

Even though it was replaced by the more practical, and still rotary-engine-powered, RX-8 in 2004, the hardcore RX-7 still holds a special place in the hearts of many sports car lovers around the world.

Since August 2011, when production of the RX-8 ceased, Mazda, the sole champion of rotary engines, does not have such a model in its line-up.
