AutoExpress Drives Facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet

The freshly-facelifted Mercedes-Benz E-Class Cabriolet builds on the familiar strengths of its predecessor, while adding a pint of more style, better efficiency and improved handling. The new headlights and reshaped front fascia are the highlight of the facelift, while the rest of the car gets only minor alterations. Read more »

Driven: New Peugeot 2008 – A Grown-Up 208 That Goes Off-Road

Wake up early, drive two hours to the airport, catch the flight to whatever destination the program dictates (in this case it’s Paris), though my trip doesn’t stop there. Peugeot has decided to launch the new 2008 small crossover in Strasbourg. This means another boarding, this time on the TGV – that’s train de grande vitesse, or high-speed train. Yep, it sure is high-speed, at one point reaching 326 km/h (203 mph) but, even so, it takes two and a half hours to get there. I hope it’s worth all the time and a sore bum.

Going Global

The 2008 is Peugeot’s entry in the expanding small SUV niche. At 4.16 m long, it’s 200 mm longer than the 208 hatchback on which it is based and is poised to take on rivals such as the Nissan Juke, the Renault Captur and the Ford EcoSport. Mind you, the wheelbase remains the same (2,538 mm) so the extra length is accounted for by the slightly increased front and, mostly, rear overhang that increases boot volume from 295 to 360 lt (VDA).

Carbuyer Reviews New SEAT Leon, Calls it a Cheaper and More Stylish Golf

I’ve always been a fan of all generation SEAT Leons, which are very impressive cars, with solid underpinnings, good interiors and different styling. The second-gen car ditched the angular lines altogether, and went for a totally different look, but now, with the third generation model that’s already here, they’ve changed styling philosophy yet again. Consumer Reports Goes Wild with Praise and Drifty Joy Over the Tesla Model S

The Consumer Reports test team is not easily impressed, and most of their opinions on cars are a balanced mix of pros and cons - one of the reasons why their reviews are so well-regarded. However, now that they’ve put their hands on their own all-electric Tesla Model S to test, they’re really struggling to say anything bad about it…

It's is not the full review, as this will be posted at a later date, once the car goes through the whole battery of CR tests, but that doesn't mean they haven't done a lot with the car so far.

Opel / Vauxhall Cascada Convertible Video Reviewed, Gets Thumbs Up for Its Price

The world of cabriolets that can seat four passengers comfortably has a new member, the Opel/Vauxhall Cascada, a car which aims to be a lower-priced alternative to premium vehicles like the Audi A5 drop top. While the Opel is nowhere near as expensive as the premium cars in this category, according to this review by MotorTorque UK, buyers won’t feel short changed one bit. Read more »

iDrive: Alfa Romeo Brera is Bold, Good Looking and Almost There

There are two basic categories of car buyers: the ones who view an automobile as a means of transportation and the enthusiasts. The first group walks into a purchase with their head firmly on their shoulders, considering things such as finance, depreciation and such before signing on the dotted line, while the latter let their heart rule their head.

Motoring journalists are, mostly, petrolheads and the crew here at CarScoops is no exception, thus we decided to seek cars that stir the emotions. The Italians undoubtedly do have a long tradition in this particular field; so, with Alfa Romeo getting ready for its big comeback, picking its last mass-production coupe, the Brera, was a natural choice.

Driven: New Peugeot 208 GTi – A Real Hot Hatch at Last?

The early bird usually gets the worm. Unusually, this particular morning I’ve become an early bird myself though, instead of worms, I’m enjoying a nice cup of espresso and hot croissants [sic] in the balcony of a hotel in Nice, France, for the press drive of the new Peugeot 208 GTi.

Below, in the car park, is a large group of 208 GTis in various colors gleaming in the morning sun. Inevitably, since I’m not here on vacations but to get behind the wheel of Peugeot’s latest hot hatch, I find myself scribbling down some thoughts before the official presentation that will take place shortly before the driving.

The CS Diaries: We Ride Shotgun in a Radical SR3 Around the Ascari Track [w/Videos]

Patience is not included in my (admittedly limited) repertoire of virtues so, being soaked to your underpants after spending the most part of a day exposed to rain in a race track would, in any other occasion, is too much to tolerate.

Uncharacteristically, though, the cold wind that’s making my body shiver cannot wipe the wide grin off my face. If anything, the past few minutes have erased my grumpy mood and, right now, I’m up for almost anything.

I am at the Ascari race circuit in southern Spain for the launch of Bridgestone’s new Adrenalin RE002 tire. The weather did, as mentioned, its best to throw off this nicely organized event and the cars brought along for us to sample topped off with an Audi TT 1.8 TFSI; hardly something to get truly excited about, right?

The Rain in Spain and My Track Day at Bridgestone’s Adrenalin Experience at Ascari

This most definitely is my winter of discontent. Never mind the calendar shows we’re nearing the end of March. I’m in southern Spain and the weathermen forecast warm and sunny weather. They very nearly nailed it, too: it’s only 10-15 degrees colder than they said it would be and the sun is nowhere to be seen. Rain, on the other hand, is omnipresent.

That greenhouse effect has messed up the seasons but of all the days in the year and all the places in the world, why here and why during this event? “Here” being the Ascari Race Resort in the mountains above Marbella, an hour drive from the beach, and the “event”, Bridgestone launching its new Adrenalin Potenza RE002 tire at said venue.

First Drive in NZ: All-New Subaru Forester High On Refinement, Space

Just been driving the new Forester XT turbo in New Zealand, and it's the first Subaru Turbo I've driven with a CVT.

I had mixed feelings about how that transmission would work with the turbo, but I guess that the fact that Subaru's new third generation Lineartronic is going to be used with its new range of European market turbodiesels in both the Outback and Forester later in the year means that it will take the torque.

I noticed no disconcerting flare - often a bugbear with CVTs and more powerful engines - and loved the way the car stepped smoothly off the line, settling into low-revving cruise mode for town and around work, and open-road driving very decorously.

Well-chosen gearing allows the Forester to surf along on its low to mid-revolution biased torque curve, which will allow pretty useful economy in normal running, while the surge of energy on tap when you mash the throttle is very pleasing. With a rise in engine pitch, the Forester XT quickly catches up with itself in that distinctive CVT way, and dispatched overtaking maneuvers with great aplomb.

Watch Volvo's BMW M3 Killer, the S60 Polestar Performance in Action

Any automaker that wants to play with the big names in the premium car league needs a performance lineup.

Just think about it; even Cadillac, which for the most part of its history was associated with luxury and cars that resembled...land yachts caved in and created the V-Series once its parent company GM got serious about competing against the Germans.

In all fairness, Volvo gave it a try much earlier with the 249hp 850 T-5R in the mid-1990s followed by the 296hp S60 R in the early 2000s before officials pulled the plug on the 'R' designation (not to be confused with the R-Line accessories and trim levels) in 2007.

As time goes by, more and more publications are getting some quality seat time behind the wheel of Pagani's newest exotic supercar, the cumbersomely named Huayra.
