Renault Reminds Us How Practical Their Twizy EV Can Be With New Promos

Many aspects of the Renault Twizy are less than satisfactory, like the range, price and unavoidable battery lease costs. However, if you can learn to live with those, driving a Twizy could be better than riding a scooter, which is what Renault is trying to provide some competition to with their smallest EV. Nissan Wants Its Own, Better Renault Twizy EV

The Renault Twizy EV, a vehicle that makes sense for cruising on the beachfront in Ibiza, and very short pizza delivery duties, is actually backed by a very good concept.

It is very compact, easy to maneuver and park, while emitting no harmful gasses (at least not directly), and carrying two people in tandem. However, it is hampered by its limited range, very harsh suspension, limited practicality and, of course, the cost of leasing the batteries. However, Renault Group partner Nissan now wants to make its own, better version of the Twizy, as AutoNews Europe reports.

Renault Drops the Rear Seat from the Twizy and Turns It into the Twizy Cargo Pocket Van

Renault has unveiled the Twizy Cargo, a new version of the small battery-powered model designed for carrying goods – or at least in theory. Don’t think of it as an alternative to the Kangoo, as the boot can only accommodate 180 liters (6.35 cubic feet) of luggage weighing a maximum of 75 kilograms (165.3 lbs). This has been done at the expense of the single rear seat, which has disappeared to create some cargo space.

Built by Renault Tech in cooperation with Renault Sport Technologies, the Twizy Cargo has a watertight boot that is accessible via a rear lockable door that opens to 90 degrees. The conversion leaves the front seat still moveable, while the rear door features a locking system that works with the ignition key.

Sebastian Vettel Takes the Zoe and Twizy Renault Sport F1 for a Spin

Being a Formula One driver comes with a lot of PR responsibilities, and world champion Sebastian Vettel is no exception. Aside from the Red Bull events, the German pilot also has to do PR work for Renault, the F1 team’s engine supplier, and for title sponsor Infiniti.

Considering the latest media event involved Vettel driving the Renault Zoe electric car and the one-off Twizy Renault Sport F1, we can’t say that is an ordeal. Especially having the opportunity to drive the bonkers KERS-equipped Twizy, must have been a pleasant experience for Vettel.

Watch the Renault Twizy RS F1 Beat Two Megane RS in Drag Race

The Twizy Renault Sport F1 concept not only looks bonkers, it also goes like crazy! Fitted with a Formula 1-derived KERS system that instantly increases power from 17 hp to 97 hp, it is able to accelerate from standstill to 100 km/h or 62mph in 6 seconds, just like the Megane RS 265.

However, if you watch the video below, you’ll be under the impression that the Twizy concept is even faster than a Megane hot-hatch, given its impressive acceleration off the line (and the not very motivated Megane drivers, one may add).

Renault Puts F1 Wings and KERS on the Twizy, Makes It as Fast as the Mégane RS 265!

Renaultsport is known for making some crazy cars, but this one may be their most insane ever. It’s called the Twizy Renault Sport F1 and it’s a concept car that shows what happens when you put Formula 1 technology on an everyday electric car.

The result of the collaboration between the engineers at Renaultsport and their colleagues at Renault Sport F1, the showcar rides on the wheels of a single-seater race car and, just like an F1 machine, it has a front splitter, side-pods, rear wing and a diffuser, complete with an F1-style rain light on the lower side of the rear “bumper”.

Elia Preparing Tuning Program for New Renault Twizy EV

Even in factory trim, the new Twizy is by far the quirkiest production model in Renault's range - and how could it not be with its electric powertrain, diminutive dimensions, a tandem seat layout and Lamborghini-style scissor doors. Read more »

So You Think You Can Drift? The Renault Twizy Edition

Some will buy the new Renault Twizy for its eco-friendly nature and some for its futuristic almost conceptual looks, while others for its ultra-compact size, but we seriously doubt if anyone will choose the French 1+1 tandem-seat electric city car with its 17hp motor for its ability to go sideways.

Still, given the Twizy's rear-wheel drive layout and the fact that the very capable Renaultsport division designed its chassis, it's a reasonable question for any gearhead: Will it drift?

Renault's Quirky Pure-Electric Twizy Goes on Sale in the UK

Renault has never been the one to shy away from eccentric creations (remember the Avantime?) but the new Twizy certainly takes quirkiness one-step further as it looks like the odd pairing of a golf kart with a motorcycle offering seating for two in a tandem layout while riding on four wheels.

Revealed as a concept for the first time at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show, Renault surprised us a year later with the presentation of the production model in Paris. Now, the Twizy is available in European showrooms including Britain where it went on sale today.
